I renter a limo and went wine tasting in Napa. I went with my husband, my best friend and her husband, and my brother and his significant other. It was great because the limo drove us around all day so we could just relax and enjoy the wineries. Then we went out to a nice dinner and stayed the night. It was a day I'll never forget.

Let's see, for my thirtieth I took a shower, walked up and down the hall, and had a huge fight with a pediatrician, three nurses and a lactation consultant about my decision to give my new baby a bit of formula.
I was in the hospital recovering from a c-section, so perhaps this is not the model you wish to follow :)

I'm having a do-over for my 31st, so I'm looking forward to reading your responses.

Turning 30 was the most difficult milestone birthday for me. I knew this as it was approaching. It just happened that my husband had proposed to me when I was 28. Really, I was worried about turning 30 at 28, so I told him that I wanted to wait until I was 30 to get married and planned our wedding for the weekend closest to my birthday. My focus then became the wedding rather than turning 30.

Hi Pamela,

Do you think someone might be planning a surprise party for you?

Personally, I would prefer a intimate dinner and weekend (or overnight) in the city for two, if you are married or have a special man in your life.

OR,,,You and a few friends could go to a fancy dinner, see a show, do some shopping and also spend the night in the city...(I'm talking San Francisco or any city you enjoy).

Happy 30th, hope you have a good year.

Blessings.....

I'd do something crazy!!! I LOVE Sue H.'s story and am totally gonna do it!! My husband is an artist and we're both crazy and that's such an amazing idea! And I'm sorry but going out for your birthday and calling it "advertising to get attention"? really!? It's your birthday, that's just ridiculous! Go big or go home, you only turn 30 once!

I am very private and prefer not to have the big celebrations, and advertise to get attention, etc.

We enjoyed a great dinner at one of my favorite restaurants and a bottle of wine on my birthday and then........

I had a weekend to myself in South Beach Miami... LOVE that place.

It was great just to do whatever I wanted to do for the weekend because it was just me.

ETA: Yes Megan, meaning some people like low key FUN times. I had a blast for my 30th.....thanks very much.

I went with my husband, sister & very close friend out to a fancy-shmancy dinner followed by a 4 course dessert & martinis at a different restaurant in Atlantic City. We did go to a bar in one of the casinos after all of that. It was low-profile, but a lot of fun.

LOL. I went through mid-life crisis at 30. Flew from SoCal to Ashland, Oregon. I went to the Shakespeare festival alone for 3 days and loved it. Went shopping. Went to a tattoo parlor and got my nose pierced. Arrived home after 5 days and my husband and 2.5 year old threw me a surprise party at home.

This one hits home...I turned 30 a month ago....I didnt think I needed anything special...afterall its just another day/yr, right? I kinda wanted to go to Tahoe or Fort Bragg for the weekend, or have a BBQ with with friends and family...but just never got it together and we were just too busy. So we went to an uneventful dinner and that was it, I was satisified...I thought. But I gotta tell ya, I regret not doing something more! I was the first to turn 30 out of my friends...and so far 3 of them have done way cool stuff and I have to admit I am a little jealous : ( Suprise party, trip to Costa Rica, another suprise party etc etc.

So moral of the story...do SOMETHING! Anything! I like another posters' idea of having a "redo" on my 31st : ) I am so doing that! Fun question : )

My birthday is always around the time of the Harley Rally in Myrtle Beach so we went on vacation, dragged my MIL along to watch the kids and my husband went out on nice long ride after a great dinner.
