3 Month Old Not Taking Naps

I can't seem to get my 3 month old to take long naps. The longest nap he has taken in a while is about 30-45 minutes. When he wakes up from those short naps he is still exhausted and sometimes he will go back to sleep after a few minutes but again he wakes up soon after that. He has been a lot fussier lately because he is not getting good naps. He sleeps pretty good at night just not during the day. Is there anything I can do to help him take longer naps? Please help....it is driving me crazy!

What can I do next?

have you tried establishing a Nap Time Routine? It could be going into the nursery and reading a book and snuggling?
My first kiddo was a HORRIBLE napper until about 6 months. I was determined with the second that sleeping (and quality sleeping at that) happened. We usually put him down in his crib when he starts to look or act sleepy and he sort of fusses (not cries) himself to sleep. He only stays asleep in there for about an hour tops so we pop him in his swing when he "wakes up" and he sleeps for another 45 - 60 minutes. I just think sleep is soooo important for their well being that I will always recommend getting them the right amount of sleep no matter what. that is unless it means I dont get sleep too. It sounds like the baby is sleeping good at night, so youve got half the battle down!

best of luck!

I am a stay at home mom with an 18 month old. When she was that age I was reading a couple of books that might help. 1. Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child 2. Babywise (there are several of those, but there is one that fits your child's age) 3. and my favorite: 12 hours sleep by 12 weeks old. Even though your child is already there, this book really talks about a schedule. One thing I do even still, is we go through a routine for her nap just like the on at bedtime, minus the bath. I read to her, turn on some music, and make sure that she has all of her security items (pacifier and her blankie). Anyways, then she knows it is nap time. You might also want to check enviornmental stuff. Is the room dark enough? If not, put up some long curtains that you can close at nap time. I hope some of this helps and that you can use some of it.

First, I would suggest you mention this to your son's pediatrician. He may ask you questions about feedings, etc. Some foods can cause gas and perhaps he is uncomfortable which would cause him to not nap well. Is the room too cold or too hot? Is he bundled? Is his diaper soiled?

One of my friends couldn't figure out why her 3 month old son had trouble sleeping. He seemed super irritated. Well, she checked the baby folds of his arms and legs and to her surprise, she found pockets with lint in one fold and an ant in another fold! If only the baby could talk!

Sometimes, if babies get "over-stimulated", they seem to be a lot fussier and can't sleep as well. Is your house noisy? Are there other kids running around, pets? Some may recommend a warm bath then a quiet room.

Another thing worth mentioning is this. Many of my friends and relatives have told me that their boys never napped for more than 30 minutes at a time, some didn't nap all day, so they were over-tired and fussy. (They felt as if they were going to go crazy too.) Is this common in boys more than girls? Maybe a pediatrician could answer that questions as well.
