3 Month Old Baby Has Red Birth Marks- Strawberry Hemangiomas

My daughter has these little raised red birth marks on her body. One on her forehead, one on her neck, one on her hand. Are these going to go away? The doctor said most likely they are going to get bigger. Does anyone have any experience with this type of birth mark? I don't want her to get made fun of when she gets older. The one on her head might get covered with her hair when it grows in but the other ones you can't really hide.

What can I do next?

My dd is covered in birthmarks, but none are raised. I would seriously suggest that you have a specialized dermatologist look at them and give you some information. I HIGHLY suggest Dr Ghali in grapevine, he specializes in pediatric birthmarks.

My daughter was born with one on her neck. We told her that God sent an Angel to kiss her when she was born and it makes her special. She is now 5 and it has shrunk from about a quarter to a dime. Her pedi at the time said most go away by 2-3. If they do get bigger I would seek out a specialist, but even then give it a year or two.

my 14 mth old was born with one. my doctor said that by the time he started school he would be surprised if it was still there. it has shrunk and "broken up" a lot (as in the red marks now have white marks between them where it is going away). i would just keep an eye on it. my doctor measured it at each checkup.

enjoy your baby....beauty marks and all!

i liked the person who said they were angel kisses...so precious!

My daughter was born with one on the pad of her thumb ... it looked like she had red paint there. The doctors said it would probable be gone by the time she's 5. Hers ended up being gone by about 4 1/2 yrs. I think the only time they do something laser or surgery wise is if they fail to go away or start to grow out of control. Congrats on your baby!

they do eventually disappear. I forget how long they can stick around, though. My 18 month has underneath her arm pit and they are starting to shrink up. I think you can have them surgically removed if they do not start shrinking up.

Hello E.,
My 6yo son had a raised strawberry on his calf, about the size of a golf ball, when he was born. It was really scary looking. But by the time his 1st b-day rolled around, it was gone, without a trace.

Hello E.,
My daughter had about ten of them. They didn't appear till she was a couple of weeks old. They were all a little bigger than tip of a pin except two of them on her face. The one on her face were about the size of pencil erasers. The two around her eye were scheduled to be lasered off but by the time she was nine months they disappeared. The doctor suggested laser because the one on the face are usually more vascular and they might interfere with her vision. I said many prayers and the doctors were even surprised that they all dissappeared so quickly. We went to the specialist at Children's Hospital Dallas. They see so many different cases and it is their expertise. Hope all goes well.

Both of my daughters, oddly enouugh, had hemangiomas under their eye. My oldest daughter's went away by the time she was 4 and my younger daughter's was gone by the time she was 3. They can laser them off, but it has been my experience that insurance companies like to call that a 'cosmetic procedure' unless it is in some way effecting their health, so you might have to pay for it out of pocket.

My neice was born with a large own on one of her shoulders. By the time she was a few year's old it was almost gone - it's very faint and much much smaller.

A kid that used to go to the daycare I worked at had the same thing. He was there when he was 18 months for about a year, then left. He came back when he was 4, and a lot of them were gone, or at least much smaller. The other kids, at that age anyway, didn't really pay much attention to them. They noticed them, but didn't make fun of him or anything. They just asked what they were. Hope that helps!
