Hello Everyone. I am looking for suggestions on my son 2nd bday party. He will be 2 on CHRISTMAS EVE!! Last year we had his bday the 1st weekend in Dec. We just rented a room and had all our friends/family over for a pizza party. But, I wanted to do something fun and creative. He has had a pretty rough year and I wanted his bday to be lots of fun. With it being a winter month it makes the options slim. He loves planes. I would love to do something to include planes. Anythoughts? suggestions?? I would appriciate all!

Does he like JJ the Jet Plane? On PBS Sprout they had an episode where kids made plane pizzas using roll out bread sticks or pizza dough. The kids then put on their own toppings and the parents baked it. They came out looking like puffy airplanes. It was really cute. Could probably go to the site and see if they gave instructions or other ideas. Good luck.

You could count on snow more when I grew up in Michigan, but what about a sledding party? He's old enough for little kiddie hills. Then back to your house for house for hot coco and cake?

We did the plane theme for our son last year. I picked up a plane mold off of ebay and sat it on the "runway" (we made the 9x13 cake and then we baked the plane and then flipped the plane out of the mold and onto the runway.) We used chocolate icing for the runway and then used gum drops for the runway lights and then we used white icing for the plane and made little windows and then wrote his name on it (we used frosting pens that I think I picked up at Target). Our goody bag items came from Oriental Trading company (put-together wooden planes, kazzos, pull back and release planes and key chain planes that light when you push a button.) We also had our party at a place that had the air-bounce things to jump in and they had a variety of things that were air-bounce related and even the adults were able to get in on the action. If you need some pictures of more ideas, just let me know. Have fun!

Good Morning M.,
Have you been to pinheads in Noblesville?
I was there the other day and actually wondered later if they rent the place out.
They have a toddler area with toys, a castle with slides and labirinths, all kids of different activity areas.
They also serve food, so I am sure they do parties....
The toddler area is separate from the bowling alley.
There are also videogames in case older kids were coming...The videgames are not in the same enclosed area. They also have an area where you can shoot basketball in different heights.

I am new to the area but wanted to suggest that in case you were interested.
They may let you decorate it as someone else suggested with the airplane theme.

The idea I would think of his to throw him an airplane party. Rent a room somewhere that is quiet and only family and friends would be allowed in. Decorate it with homemade paper shaped planes, or models, toys, etc. But make everything planes.

For my sons first birthday party I threw him a green colored party because his favorite color has been green since he was born. I bought a personal size cake for him with green frosting and used green cake gel to write his name on it. I made 2 bundt cakes half white half chocolate and used frosting on one and whipped cool whip on the other and dyed the white cake and frostings green. I bought party hats and painted them green and decorated them with lighter green colors. Green balloons; well you get the picture.

The only thinks that weren't really green was the table clothes, regular food, and streamer. I made the streamers from construction paper. I had also bought a white tablecloth and wrote happy first bday and had everyone that came write messages to the birthday boy. He can keep that forever. Also on the table cloth I used stencils and drew things that would be green. Like frogs, lizards, turtles, snakes. Turned out really well.

Hi M.,
My name is G. and I am a mom of 3 children ages 19,16,5 When my kids were little we had a lot of birthday parties. The main reason for parties was I didn't have them when I was little. Christmas Eve birthdays are always hard because most people combine Christmas with the birthday. It would be fun I think to have a Christmas/Birthday party and include any nieborhood friends and all the family.Your birthday theme could be planes. Go to a party surplus store they have just about everything, You can also have a cake made with planes on it. Then the family can be included and the neibors. Put his birthday presents under the tree and see if you can get one of the family or friends to pose as Santa. That is what I would try who knows it may become a tradition and the whole family be included the rest of his life. Hope this helps. G.

Maybe you could take him to the airport. I don't think I'd do it with a bunch of kids, but I bet your son would like it. He could watch all the planes land and take off. I also love the idea of a themed birthday party. There is a park in New Haven where people go to fly the remote control airplanes. I don't know if they do it in the winter though. That may be some place fun to go visit.

okay, this is one thing I love doing is having parties. I myself have a son who will be 2 in Jan. I have thought long and h*** o* what to do and I seem to change me mind when something funnier comes around. My son loves planes too but I am not that creative when it comes to planes and I will have a smaller budget this year. What you could do for planes is buy serval cheap ones and hang them from your ceiling with fish string and a tac so it won't leave big holes. Gift bags you could buy things that you would get on a plane like little bags of peanuts and pretzels with a deck of cards. You can even have decks of cards made with stuff on them that can get expensive so you could just cover the box and personalize it yourself. For food you could get really creative and have nothing but finger food like sandwiches cut into planes, I am sure you could find a cookie cutter. Things like that. I am planning on having a under the sea theme since you can find most of that stuff on sale since it will be winter time. I was going to hang fish and things under the sea from the ceiling and the paper stremers in green for grass. I was going to have all finger foods done in bright colors. Fruit on kabo sticks stuck in a watermelon, star shaped sandwiches. Kids like pb&j and for adults something like chicken salad, etc. For the cake I am going to make a fish shaped cake which I found in a cake book that seems simple to make. I am all about minor details those to me are the ones people remember the most. If you have any other questions please feel free to email me I just love doing this stuff. Good luck and just have fun with it. Birthdays only come once a year so why not go all out right?

You can hang airplanes from the ceiling. The invitation could look like airline tickets. Signs for Baggage Claim for present drop off and goody bag pick up.

Hello M.,
I love themes. My daughters first birthday, I had it Disney Princess theme. Her second bday, I had the theme as The Wiggles. Ashlynn LOVEs Wiggles. Her 3rd Birthday I had Madagascar; another beloved thing and movie. She loves Blues Clues and Curious George so her 4th birthday (coming this January 2008) is going to provide a challenge to pick which one I should do for her birthday. That's me, I love themes. It's more fun for me than her, but it's really up to you. If you are a theme type of mom, go with the planes for your child or do something fun like you did for his 1st bday. That was a great idea.
