2 Year Olds Teeth Turning Black
I recently noticed my daughters baby teeth are turning black? I called the dentist and told them and made an appointment. Of course she couldn't get in right away and in fact doesn't go in til next month. I brush her teeth regularly. I don't know what's going on. I'm scared that her teeth are rotting.

Most dentists can put you on the call if there is a cancellation list or you can call every day to see, eventually they might just work you in earlier if you are persistent. Always be pleasant and simply say you are calling to see if they have a cancellation you can take the place of..... They will see you as a nice pest and take care of you. Good Luck! Let us know what happens.

My cousin which is age two had this same problem and the dentist gave her medicine to clear the bacterie infection.HE said it was from her still sucking on a pacifier that was being taken in and out of her mouth and not being cleaned often.

There's some things that can turn her teeth black aside from rotting. If she's getting too MUCH fluoride from toothpaste and fluorinated water that can do it. Also, there's quite a few antibiotics that can cause teeth to change colors. You might want to talk to a doctor too... If the teeth are black and NOT from decay, it's a systemic issue.

We never have to wait long for an emergency appointment. Dr. Nally works M-W and goes on mission trips on the weekends and does free dental care in third world countries. He is great with children. Check out his website.

When my husband was little his 2 frint teeth turned dark almost black and his dentist said he got a bacteria in side the pulp of them and it was turning them black and that bacteria could get into his adult teeth if not treated. So they did root canals on bothteth and cleaned all hte bacteria out and he had silver front teeth (so cute in pictures) till they fell out and his adult teeth came in just fine. It might be bacteria so maybe try to contact the dentist and see if you can be put on a cancelation list to get in sooner.

Is it possible your daughter may have bumped her mouth at some point? It sounds like her tooth has root damage. It happened to my daughter as well, when her cousin turned on the treadmill when she was standing on it (argh!) and she tripped and fell, pushing her tooth up into the root of the gum. We took her to the doctor and he warned us that the tooth would darken. Unfortunately the tooth/teeth will remain dark in color until it falls out and the new adult tooth comes in, but the adult one will be perfectly healthy! Im sure your dentist could explain to you all of the possible causes once you go in. I opted not to have my daughter's tooth removed, since there was no continuing pain, no deterioration of the tooth itself, and it did not affect her chewing. She just had a wicked smile for a while! lol. Good luck to you!

I had bad teeth when I was little. When they are rotting out, they turn brown and it eats into the enamel. There will be obvious damage. Black sounds like either there was an injury and it lost blood supply or possibly ingesting too much of a vitamin or mineral.
Good luck.

I don't want to scare you at all but my step-brother has always had weak/ just horrible teeth and now so does my nephew. My nephew will be 3 in March but has gone to the dentist every 6 months (like an adult) for over a year now. His teeth were doing the same thing. He just needs more care for his teeth than other people will need.
Put the worries aside though, you are doing what you can by taking him to the dentist.

I'd be more concerned about her getting too many vitamins or some kind of mineral in your water. Sometimes too much of a "good thing" isn't good. Or maybe it's a medication side effect. It's a good thing you've already called the dentist.
