I guess we have untraditional parties because we do all of the kids parties the same, regardless of age and weather. We have real food and drinks, icecream, invite everyone, decorate according to theme w/ matching cake, make goodie bags for the kids and play age appropriate games. If it's warm we do the games outside, but if its cold we do them inside.

2 year olds don't need anything special. In fact, you don't even need to do organized games. None of that starts until 3. So, just have some friends over for cupcakes. In fact, cupcakes and singing happy bday will be the highlight for all the 2 year olds. Get them balloons as their parting gift, and keep it super simple. Just let them free play.

For my 2 year olds birthday, we just had some family and friends over our house on Saturday afternoon for lunch, cake and ice cream. There were 5 kids there: 3 2-yr olds, and a 6 and 8 yr old. We decorated the house, but I didn't have organized games since the 2 yr olds wouldn't have really understood. We just set up a play tent and tunnel in the living room, and let them free-play with that and all of my daughters toys. They had a blast! I also set up her mini-picnic table so that the little ones could eat together instead of on their parent's lap.
I'll admit though - since it was in our house, we had to limit the attendance so that it wasn't too crazy. That was the only negative.

We had my 2 yr old's party at Monkey Joes. It's an indoor inflatables place. We only had a few kids, so it wasn't super expensive. I guess it depends on how many "friends" you are inviting. If you have the space, having it at your home with a bunch of indoor games would be fine, too.

Since the party will be in the winter, I am going to assume it will have to be indoors. This is a very active age for little ones and if you have multiple children coming, I would recommend having the party where there is plenty of room to run around. If your home is appropriate for this, I would just have it at home. Otherwise I would look for a place where they can jump around at some kind of party place. I took my niece to a party at a place that had inflatables and you rent the room by the hour with a cake room included. Something like that would be great!

You can never go wrong with a party at My Gym. We had my son's 2nd birthday party there and he loved it. Totally worth the money.

just let them play, cake for snack. easy. or invite a special friend and parents and go to the pool or an indoor playground.
