19 Month Old - Rash on Face
My 19 month old son has had a rash on his face for about 6 weeks now. We've tried Mustela face wash, Aquafor, and even a fungal creme when our pediatrican thought it might be fungus. He uses a pacifier for his nap and nighttime sleep, so maybe that started as the cause of it, but the rash has since spread above his mouth area to his cheeks and over the bridge of his nose. It doesn't seem to bother him, but it looks very red and bumpy. We haven't changed anything in his diet recently. Any moms out there experience this with their child? Any idea what it could be? Any suggestions on how to cure it? Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

My dermatologist suggested a 1:1:1 compound of Nystatin, Zinc Ointment (Desitin), and Hydrocortisone. I used it 2-4/x a day on a stubborn rash my daughter had and it cleared up right away (I had tried every other product under the sun for months before we tried this).

Hi! my daughter had a rash on her face and we used California Baby Aloe Vera Cream. It's in a purple jar and you can get it at Whole Foods, some Target's, and diapers.com
We swear by it. The rash is gone in a day or two. I hope this works for you.

My son has something that looks like a rash (but not itchy) on his skin too. The pediatrician didn't know what it is and said to use Aquafor, which wasn't working, so I took him to a dermatologist. His skin condition is called keratosis polaris and it's fairly common.

A rash for that long of a time should give the Dr. concern. Have a scrach sample done so they can diagnose the skin under a microscope. Also have blood work done, could be a other problem causing rash. Good luck!

Try California Baby Calendula cream. You can get it at target or online at diapers.com - I use it on my newborn for everything with great success.

Hi R.,
I so highly recommend Arbonne's ABC baby products. I won't get into all the benefits and 'success' stories - you can read more about it at www.arbonne.com. However, I wouldn't use anything else on my son when he was a baby... :)
You have nothing to lose - there is a 45 day money back guarantee if you don't love it.
Let me know if you'd like to give any of the products a try!
Best regards,
D.

Hi R.. Try applying calendula lotion (from Whole Foods). My daughter gets rashes easily and this lotion works wonders!

Hi R.~My kids had the same problem when they were tiny...and it was solved by simply washing their face with warm water after their nap! Apparently the saliva was irritating their skin and causing the rash since they drooled a bit as they slept. The fact that your son is using a pacifier would cause more wetness on the sheets and sure seems like a possibility. Before embarking on a buying spree and trying all sorts of lotions and potions...you might wash first, put a tiny bit of vaseline or baby lotion on his face as a barrier before the nap, then wash after the nap as well. Perhaps this will work for you and save you a lot of money trying other products that may or may not work! Good Luck!

Hi R.,
My daughter has sensitive skin and recently broke out in a terrible rash that started on her face then spread to the rest of her body. It was red and blotchy. She wasn't scratching it, it wouldn't improve regardless of what we tried. After taking her to the dr. we discovered it was an allergic reaction to either a fabric softener (we tried a new one)or the ingredients in her stuffed animals such as polyeurethane or polyeurethane foam. Our daughter loves to suck on stuffed animals and we took away the Suavatel Aromatherpy lavendar/yling ylang scented softener and gave her a break from the stuffed animals and ever since the rash has been gone and never came back. We try to give her cotton stuffed animals now. The dr. gave her over the counter liquid Qdryll (Benedryl) she is almost 2 years old. The medicine completely calmed the condition down. This may sound out there, but its a possibility...consider any chemicals you may have introduced into your home or any new soaps. Also some kids are allergic to stuffed animals. Good luck! G.
