Hello All,

I am trying to get my daughter back on a schedule. She seemed to do so much better that way. She will turn 19 months old this week and is still taking 2 naps a day. we tried the 1 nap but she struggled A LOT! Dr. told me it was okay if that is what she wants to do. So..here is what we do.

6:30am wake up (7 latest due to daddy getting ready for work and waking her)
7:00 to 8:00 breakfast and cartoons
8:00 to 10:00 getting dressed, mommy shower, play, color etc.
10:00 to 10:45 nap
11:00 to 12:00 walk or other outside activities
12:00 to 1:00 lunch and cartoons
1:00 to 2:00 free play and reading with mommy
2:00 to 3:30 or 4:00 nap
4:00 to 6:00 play, outside activities, making dinner
6:00 to 7:30 dinner, play with daddy, walk in evening
7:30 to 8:00 bathtime and maybe snack depending on how much eaten at dinner
8:00 bedtime

does that schedule sound okay? she seems to do well, I just cant imagine her at her age only being awake 3 to 4 hours before needing a nap. sometimes she is cranky and throwing a tantrum within 2 hours of being awake!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

thanks everyone for your suggestions! We are transitioning since I posted this...she has started to not want to nap in the morning on some days and some days she wants it. On the days she doesnt, I just push afternoon nap earlier. It works for us for now. I also pushed bedtime earlier by 1/2 hour from 8 to 7:30. We have to miss out on some stuff for now but I guess its okay as long as I have a happy baby!

It sounds like this schedule works for you all, so keep going with it! If she's taking that sleep, then she needs it and it's good for her. So, don't worry if it seems like she shouldn't need those two naps! If she takes them, then she needs them!

My son's schedule at almost 16 months is wakes at 6:30, breakfast at 7, nap at 9:30-10:30 or 11, lunch at 12:00, nap at 2:00-3:30, dinner at 5:30 and bed at 7:00. Works great for us usually and this is all that matters!

Ours sounds pretty much the same, he just gets more sleep at night. My little guy goes to bed by 7:30 and wakes up at 8am. He only takes one nap, and has been down to one since about 9 months probably. I think this is mainly due to his older brother, and us being out in the morning doing things, so he just dropped it pretty early. If your schedule works for your daughter, that's awesome!

It looks like a good schedule. Good job, Mama! The only difference between what you're doing and what I do/did with my now-2-year old is that by about 14 months, we knocked out the morning nap, pulled the afternoon nap back to starting around 12:30 (she'd then sleep nap until 3pm) and then got her to bed by or before 7pm. This way, she was getting more sleep at night, which made it a-ok to lose the morning nap and only rely on the afternoon nap.

I didn't get rid of nap #1 just because I wanted to, though; she had started to mess with her afternoon nap and that was the one that I wanted to keep since evenings would be a mess if she didn't get it. So I knew that if I didn't switch her to one nap closer to in the middle, she would be the world's biggest grump!

But really, if what you've got going on works for both of you right now, there's absolutely NOTHING wrong with that!!

I would cut down on the TV, an 18 mos old really needs NONE, if you chose to do any it should be something like Leap Frog Letter Factory or some other leap frog type movie that teaches letters and numbers.

After years of watching daycare kids, I have learned that most kids get way too little sleep. I would recommend this schedule if I were you...
6:30 wake, eat breakfast and get dressed. Cuddle, play and have fun. Spend some of this time outside if you can. Walking, sliding and riding ride on toys makes for a good nap.

9 nap for her, shower for Mommy. She should sleep at least an hour but if she wakes at 45 minutes that is ok at this age. I would not let her sleep past 10:30 though.

after nap have a snack. Kids under age 5 need both breakfast and a morning snack. So let her have a snack of healthy foods.

after snack then more play time, if it's nice then have that play time outside. Talk with her about colors you see, count objects, say names of things. Enjoy her!!
12 lunch, then immediately after read her books and put her down for nap. I like the transition to be nap then bed so they don't get overtired and they don't get riled up.
12:30 - 2:30 or even 3 should be nap. This nap should be lasting at least 2 hours.
after nap snack again, yep, they need to eat every few hours until they are about 6 yrs old. Especially with dinner being so late at your house

After snack head back outside and play until it's time to get dinner ready. While you prep dinner is the time when you should use TV if you want. This will give you a distraction so that you can cook.
6 dinner, play with daddy, take a walk
7:30 bedtime, no snack needed
