How about a play on words and using "scary" font? Something like:

You're invited to a Sweet 16 Party (in scary font)
It will be dripping with fun (maybe in scary RED font)
It will be a scream of a time (in fuzzy font)

Just some ideas.

Scavenger hunts are always good - inside or out. And for fun with food, check out your local asian supermarket - they have some REALLY wild fruit there that tastes good but looks VERY wierd - dragon fruit (like kiwi), leychee - peeled they look like eyeballs, but are like apple/grapes in taste. :)

my mom had halloween parties for me from 11-16 and we pretty much did the same things every year. we'd have a sleep over. at midnight we'd read ghost stories and then pack everyone up in a truck or van and go to a cemetary or white rock lake (because of "the lady of the lake"). games we played were bobbing for apples, a scavenger hunt in the neighborhood (two teams would have a list of random things they had to collect from neighbors), pumpkin carving contest (we never did this but it goes with the theme), and you could make it a costume party. for the invites you could just make up a silly rhyme.

How about: "This is pretty scary, but (her name) is truning 16!" Is this a surprise party for her? If not, get her involved in the planning in a very big way. This includes everything from wording and sending the invitations to planning the party moment by moment. I had all sorts of ideas for our girl's "Sweet sixteen" day and it wasn't what she wanted at all. I let her plan and just provided suggestions and some transportation and she had a great time. The group went to "Adventure Landing" for the afternoon and then came back for refreshments and a movie. Sometimes its best to just step back and let them use their own creativity.

At 16, let the young people decide what activities to have.
We have had Halloween parties for many years (I make custom costumes, among other things). We usually have an intergenerational party. The adults usually yak and the young people play games. Board games of any kind are great for gatherings and get people interacting. Scategories and Apples to Apples are 2 that my teens love to play with their friends. We also have done pumpkin carving at several of our parties and some young people really get into this and have come up with some very creative ones. Be prepared for some cleanup (cover the table with old newspapers first) and be sure to monitor the use of sharp objects. :)

As for your invitations, you can even get paper from Staples, Office Depot or Paper Direct (online) and print your own. Just simple wording works fine. Be sure to include wording that indicates it is a Halloween party and guests can dress up in costume if they want. Most young people love a chance for fantasy and make-believe and have their favorite characters they want to be, even if they're from TV shows or video games you never heard of. My boys and their friends talk about this kind of stuff all the time.
Be sure to dress up in costume yourself and have fun with it all. This can be a great bonding time with your daughter and maybe even the start of a new tradition in your family. We have 3 October birthdays in ours and this always worked well for us.

google halloween party and you'll find tons of wording. We threw a halloween party last year and that's what I did and I got ideas online and then changed things up to make a little poem. Here's what ours said:
Calling all Heroes, Ghosts,
Princesses and Witches too,
We’ve got a HALLOWEEN PARTY
Planned just for you!
Join us for food, games & eerie delight
At half after four on Halloween night
After the fun we’ll head out of the door
To go trick or treating and get candy galore!

This could be a lot of fun! How about "Spooktacular Birthday Celebration!" I'm sure you'll get a lot of goulish suggestions-just crank out some creepiness and get on with the eerily delightful planning.

Instead of having a lot of princesses show up- invite guests to wear their costumes. Bobbing for apples? One game I used to love was called something like "VAMPIRE" everyone playing was blindfolded and set loose in a fenced backyard with one person having been chosen as "IT". Everyone wonders around. Anytime the "IT" bumps into someone they grab them and yell "VAMPIRE!" which makes that person a vampire too. If too vampires bump into eachother they become "normal" again and if two normal bump into each other they stay normal. The game can end when everyone is a vampire or in a strange twist-it can keep going if two vampires become normal from bumping into eachother... The "IT" becomes normal again when grabbed by another vampire. It's a lot of fun especially in the dark and because you're blind folded you really freak when someone suddenly grabs you and yells vampire. Usually everyone yells or screams. LOL Lot of fun too for giggly girls with crushes on boys. The "grabbing" amounts to a hug which of course is fabulous to those teens. The blindfolding is supposed to help prevent cheating (a parent or guest can supervise) to prevent cheating or i************ t******* which was never an issue when I played it but is a consideration nowadays.

It's not a typical game played by little kids-because little kids get scared and don't do well sticking to rules for so long.

How about an orange cake with black frosting? Or vice-versa? Jack-o-lantern decor-with 16 carved out instead of creepy face? Black and orange crepe paper hung up like for Birthdays. If you daughter is fond of cats-use black cats-cute ones or halloweenish ones...Depends on how far your daughter and you want to go with it. Is it to be creepy or cutsey since it's the sweet 16? Talk to your daughter and see if she has any ideas herself. She might surprise you!

Consider playing creepy music in the background. JUST listened to a great-music only-creepy soundtrack of shows and scarey movies from Target. It'd be perfect to set the mood but allow the guest to talk and laugh and not interfer like moster mash and one eyed one horned pied purple people eater which of course, you could also go with but that gets cheesy when it's stuck in your head or you try to talk over it.

Another idea, keep the house dim and use candles for light...

My best friend did this for her daughter last year. She had every guest dress up and then gave out awards for the top 3. You could have a treasure hunt, take the kids to a haunted house, or ou could bob for apples in a cauldron. They have a plastic one at Big Lots for $5.50. As far as wording goes, I'm at a loss too. If I think of something I will let you know. Good luck and God Bless!

One Game that you could play would be guess what's in the box/bowl etc. without them seeing the contents they have to reach in and try to guess whats inside. You could do things like pudding, peeled grapes, wet gummy worms, the possibilities are endless. Have fun.

The mummy wrap is for for 6 or `16 years age- Just pop a bunch of toilet paper wraps and when the musi starts- each teams wraps a person up-
We would string marshmallo ghosts on a strin for a less sloppy version of dunkin for apples- hands behind their backs and they need to eat the ghost off the hanging line of string. I would start the invite- for a GOULISH Time and go from there- Im sure once you get it started- it will flow

Also- For my dgts party I usually pop some pics of her when she was younger around the house- windows bathrooms mirrors- just to celebrate her! A great idea would be her in Halloween costume too throughout the years- take your favorite one and have it put on the cake- that would be just too cute!
Dont worry too much about the games- its all about hanging and dancing at that age- I would have music or even a dj depending on your venue- I do have a great djt orecommend as well. Set up speakers outside with spooky music for thei arrival-

You have so much good advice, but I just wanted to tell you something that my Kids loved. I would put a poster on the wall, the type they could roll up. Then all the kids would sign in. That way I knew who was there, and the kids had a great record of everyone that came, even years later.
