My kids all sleep in the bed with us. My oldest didn't get out of the bed untail i was pregnent with my second. She was four and half. Long time. but she was our only one so it seems hard to get her out of the bed. but she started sleeping in her own bed as i was near my end of pregnancy. I am fine with my 16 month old sleeping in with us but it's kinda hard now i am scared i might roll on him well actually he crowls around alot and sometimes over us and i don't notice it untail he awakes to nurse. I am also still nursing at night time only.
So my question is can i get him in to a pack and go like bed. How do i help him transition into that? Or has anyone ever had to do this?
Also can i put him in a pack and play or the play and go as a bed until he is ready for a toddler bed?

After reading Ginas response. He dosn't have his own room yet. so he would sleep in our room in his play and go. he would go sleep first then we would later. what i think would work at least. but because i do nurse him to sleep i am not sure if through out the night i should let him cry it out or get up and nurse. One of the reasons he sleeps with us now so i can just nurse and go back to sleep.

What can I do next?

Hey there! I am a cosleeper and extended nurser also. My youngest daughter, now 22 months slept in our room until 14 months, but she just barely weaned herself a month ago. There is no need to wean first. I don't believe you should "just stop nursing" you should continue as long as you both want to. My daughter daughter nursed in the evening and in the morning in bed with me, but slept through the night in her cosleeper. We have an arms reach cosleeper, it may have made it a little easier, but i think the pack and play will be similar and just fine. Put it next to your bed, you can still nurse to sleep.. but being further away from you, he should slow down on night nursing since he will not be right next to the breast. Then you can move the pack and play to the foot of your bed. We had her at the foot of our bed for about 2 months before we transitioned to a crib in big sister's room, that went really easy. During that time I had my husband get up to do any soothing that was necessary, but that was rare. I think kids enjoy the safety and love/protection they feel from being close to their parents, and theres nothing wrong with that. Good Luck!

What about putting the pack and play in your daughters room and then putting your daughter in bed with you so your son can cry it out ??? He's up out of habit not need !!! I just did it for my 10 month old son and it took a few nights but he sleeps thru the night now. Once he sleeps through the night move him in a pack and play in your room ???

I would put him in his pack and play and wait for a toddler bed.

First, put the pack and play in his room, and put a mattress in there for you as well. Sleep in his room with him. Once he gets used to that, you can then sneak out after he falls asleep. After a few weeks you will be able to leave the room as he is falling asleep.
It will take a few weeks - a slow transition. He has been sleeping with you for 16 mos, so do not expect him to transition in just a few days.
I literally lasted TWO days with my DD in my bed. LOL. My hubby almost rolled on her both nights, and I said - that's it! Now even when she is sick she won't sleep in our bed. Sometimes I wish she would just cuddle with us.
Good luck!
