14 1/2 Month Old Getting to Sleep

When my son went to daycare and I worked everyday, he was up by 6am, had 2 naps, and to bed by 8-8:30pm. Now my son and I are currently living with my parents because we're in a moving transition to our new place and my mom has been watching him lately. Their schedule is very flexible with farming and so he gets up whenever he wakes up and gets a nap when he wants to and isn't going to bed until 10 sometimes 11 at night!! He still takes 2 naps, gets up sometimes as late as 8am and then going to bed way later than I would like. I plan on getting him back on a regular schedule once we move but I am wondering if a 14 1/2 month old still needs 2 naps? Is it healthy for him if I cut 1 out to help him get to bed earlier?

What can I do next?

You are correct. It would be a good time to transition to 1 nap. My son is in daycare and I believe that was around the time, if not sooner, that they transitioned him to one nap. I have always been told kids need structure so hopefully he adjusts OK after having such a free schedule.

My son is also 14 1/2 months old and is still taking 2 naps, but is going to bed at 7pm and sleeping 12 hrs. At his 1 yr appt. the dr. told me to watch the amount of sleep he's getting and if it starts to affect bedtime, then it's time to transition to 1 nap a day. Sounds like you might be at that place.

Shortly after my sons turned one, they started transitioning themselves from two naps down to one per day. Some days it was still a two and some days were just one. But I had no control over it. It was my children's bodies telling them what they need.

Usually around one year old they lose their morning nap and only take a afternoon nap. My daughter wakes up at 8:00 than I put her down for a nap at 1:00 until 3:30ish than she goes to bed between 8:30-9:00. Hope this helps.

Absolutely it is fine to cut him down to one nap. I usually cut my kids naps to one at about a year.

My daughter cut back to one nap a day by her 1st birthday by herself. She wakes up at 8 am, takes a nap from 1-3 pm and is asleep by 8:30 at night. I would cut your son down to one nap and see if that helps him.

My son seemed to be happier with one nap at 11 months. if i gave him 2 naps he slept maybe 1 hour each time but i found if i gave him 1 afternoon nap he would sleep 1.5 - 3 hours. We stick to my son schedule no matter where we go. Sometimes we spend weekends at my parents house, my son still goes to bed at 6:30-7 and gets up at 6:30 (on his own i never wake him til he is ready as long as i dont have to be somewhere)then he will nap from 12-? My son is 14 1/2 months old and he does great going from place to place as long as we keep to his schedule.
