Seeking OB GYN

Hi, I am new to Los Angeles and a mother of a 7-month old baby boy. I just found out that I am expecting my second baby, and I need to find a good OB GYN. I would prefer a woman but am not opposed to a male doctor if he is good...does anyone have any suggestions? I live in West LA, and I would prefer a UCLA-affiliated doctor.

The best OB/GYN I've ever been to is Dr. Frields. He also has a female OB/GYN in his office. But I highly recommend Dr. Frields. He's the one that any pregnant delivery nurse goes to by far.

This may sound crazy, but I have an OBGYN who works out in the valley- Encino area. He is also affiliated with Cedars. He is amazing!!!
He delivered all 3 of my children. I had my first when we lived in Westchester, my second we lived in Big Bear and drove and my 3rd while living in La Quinta (near Palm Springs).
But... that shows you how much I love and trust this doctor! He is compassionate, knowledgable and has a very warm and caring bedside manner.

Hi Seema,

Congratulations!

My OBGYN is DR Amersi Shamsah she is located in Santa Monica and is a UCLA-affiliated doctor. She works with DR Yashari, Manoochehr - he is also a wonderful doctor. I went and saw them for both of my pregnancy's. Dr Amersi delivered both of my sons.

Their office number is (310) 393-8228

Hi Seema,
I also did a PhD at UCLA and delivered my first child there two years ago. I was with the UCLA OB practice which is a joint practice with midwives. The OB I saw there is no longer there (she actually left while I was a patient) and one of the other OBs on staff recommended I see the midwives. They are great! I delivered with them. If you're nervous about using midwives instead of an OB, talk to one of the OBs in the practice (I would recommended Mikasich -- not sure about spelling -- she's a woman). All of the care with the midwives is in the exact same office and hospital. When I delivered, I was at UCLA and there was a resident in the room. If there is any kind of concern prenatally or during delivery, they never hesitate to consult with an OB. In many ways, I think the care is better, because it's just a little more you-centered.

Olivia

Hi Seema,

Try Dr. Olivia Crookes on 16th in Santa Monica (between Arizona and Wilshire). She is affiliated with the UCLA SM hospital, and is WONDERFUL! She takes only PPO insurance, though....

UCLA has one of the best OBGYN Departments anywhere in the Los Angeles area. I am sure you can fill your needs there, on campus.

dr. gene parks is in the marina and uses santa monica ucla for delivery. he has been great and his staff and nurses are all really helpful and nice. he's been around a long time, has a good reputation and is straight forward and laid back. i'm 30weeks pregnant with my first and so far its been a great experience with him. Good luck.

Dr. Olivia Crookes, she is affiliated with UCLA. She is great and just delivered my first child 4 weeks ago!

Dr. Lauren Nathan was my OB at UCLA. I highly recommend her! She delivered my son this past Feb. Good luck!

I have been extremely happy with Dr. Chen in the UCLA OB-GYN suite. We haven't delivered yet but due to some complications I have she has always proven responsive (paged/called out of hours etc.), caring, and takes the time to educate me on all my decision making.

UCLA Associate Professor

dr. manoochehr yashari is mine ( in santa monica on 15th st) and he's great... and he is UCLA affiliated... his partner is great as well.. i saw her a few times during my pregnancy... her name is dr. shamsa amersi .. a woman... 310-393-4655.. dr. yashari is also cedars sinai affiliated.. but dr. amersi isn't ... good luck and congratulations!

Have you considered seeing a midwife? There is a midwifery practice at UCLA started by Ann Trudell and Susan Hueser both certified nurse midwives (CNM). They deliver at UCLA and work with Dr Chen. I would highly recommend contacting their office 310-794-7274 and ask to make an appointment with Ann. Less medical interventions with option of being in hospital and still having an epidural if you choose.
Debbie Frank is also a CNM who works with Dr Paul Crane. Dr Crane delivers at Cedars and Debbie at UCLA. I went to Debbie for my OB care and she is amazing. Came to my home and labored with me before we went to the hospital.

i went to Dr. Lauren Nathen at UCLA. she's very good and down to earth. I really liked her. only stopped with her because we moved to the valley. i definately would try to get in with her.

Hello Seema,
I would recomend Dr. David Kline, MD. OBGYN.
Dr. Kline works primarily out of Cedars Sinai, on the west side, and not at UCLA, but definitely worth cinsidering.
He is incredibly knowledgeable, easygoing, and after working 15 years in the Los Angeles Birth Community, I cannot recomend him highly enough.

Should you decide to interview him, please tell him Tai says hello.

Wishing you the best of health through this new pregnancy.

Regards,
Tai Carson (retired LA Midwife)

Dr Olivia Crookes would be perfect for you. She is female and in the UCLA network. Her office is on 16th St in Santa Monica across the road from Santa Monica UCLA hospital. She delivered both my boys and many of my friends kids too. Her office number is 310-453-6767. Congrat's on your pregnancy!!

I just had a son in January and I saw the Midwives group at UCLA and loved them. They were all wonderful and I was especially happy with my delivery. The midwife RN who delivered my son was very supportive it was obvious that she had my best interest as well as my baby's in mind the whole time. You can easily find information on the UCLA Medical Center website.
I am also in the middle of my PhD program there! Congratulations and good luck!

I love love love my OBGYN. Her name is Dr Bayati, and she is in santa monica at 18th St and Wilshire blvd. 310-828-1000. She will be off in july due to her own unexpected pregnancy. She is wonderful, knowledgable, and compassionate. She delivers at either UCLA or St Johns. Another good OB (my regular MD's wife see's her) is Dr Crooks. She is at 16th St and Arizona. I know of her because Dr Bayati and Crooks used to be in the same office. Good luck to you and congratulations.
