I start most mornings by throwing on a T-shirt and yoga pants, getting the all-important coffee brewing and carefully selecting the cereal du jour for my 7-, 8- and 11-year-old children. Once they’re safely off at school, I slip into another room to start my ‘other’ full time job as a professional tech writer and mom blogger.

In my line of work, I come across a lot of new products, gadgets, and gizmos long before they hit the market. As a mom, I take an especially hard look at any technology that claims to be good for children. With three under the age of 12, I really do know a thing or two about what kids like, and equally important, what is good for them. That is what is so cool about Ameba TV. I was so taken with the service that I actually joined their team!

Ameba TV is a refreshing change in subscription-based streaming television. What’s so refreshing, you ask? For starters, everything on Ameba is family-friendly; all content focused exclusively to children between the ages of 2-12.

To help introduce you to Ameba TV, I have pulled together a list of features that I think you might like to know about.

Customizable content
My favorite Ameba feature is the ability to create and customize individual profiles for each of my children. With easy-to-follow instructions, I can select content by language, age, and gender.

Great shows, no surprises
Ameba TV offers thousands of hours of safe, smart, and always nonviolent content. Unlike other sites I have reviewed, there are no inappropriate ‘surprises’ on Ameba TV. Seriously, you don’t have to preview what your kid watches on Ameba, unless you happen to be in the mood for a crazy episode of BusyTown Mysteries, then by all means!

Popular family favorites on the site include A World of Wonders, WordWorld, BunnyBop, The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That, and Animal Atlas, just to name but a small fraction of those now available, and much, much more is on the way.

My kids’ favorite show on Ameba is the addictive Ruby Skye, P.I.—a laugh-out-loud web series for tweens. Each 3- to 6-minute webisode is heavy on hilarity, and light on attitude. I hope my daughter picks up on Ruby’s confidence, curiosity, and resourcefulness. Just between you and me, I watched the entire series one night. Good stuff!

Multilingual shows
If your toddler, tween, or teen is learning to speak Spanish, English, Mandarin, or sign language, then you’re in luck! Ameba has dozens of multilingual cartoons, clips, and shows to choose from. And, according to my own kids, none of them are classroom-style snorers. Estoy de acuerdo!

Viewer’s Choice
How can you view Ameba TV? Let me count the ways…

  1. The Web – Log in and watch any time from your computer, laptop, smartphone, or tablet. Feel free to bookmark your family
  2. LG Smart TV – Access the new Ameba channel from the dashboard on your LGE Smart TV. Why not let your kids do it with that fancy Magic Motion remote?
  3. Roku – Search for the Ameba channel on your Roku, and you’re good to go.
  4. Google TV – Just download Ameba’s brand new Google TV app. It’s that simple!

And Ameba TV will be available soon on the Xbox 360!

Trial Offer
Before subscribing, my family poked around Ameba TV using their free one week trial. If you or your kids don’t like what you see, you can easily cancel at any time. I have a pretty strong feeling you won’t want to cancel, but it is good to know that you can.

Like the Cat in the Hat says, “It is fun to have fun, but you have to know how.” With the long days of summer ahead and Ameba TV by your side, you’ve got the ‘how’ covered. Now, go have fun!
