Does anyone know of a business that you can get into at home that doesn't take long to start? I had a baby 8 weeks ago and had to start back to work yesterday. It is killing me not being home with him.

I know there's a lot of this stuff out there, but I'm really telling you this to just let you think about it. I won't give you details unless you're interested, but I have just started my own business and it is allowing me to be at home with my son. I know people who have left very high paying jobs because of the income that this business has provided them. Many of them have spouses that have also quit their jobs, or just work jobs that they love, not that they have to. I know how difficult it is to feel like you have to go back to work, I was there myself.

It is something you have to put work into. Working this business as a part time job can afford you the extra cash you need now, and to build this business could replace your current full time job.

I'm very excited about what I've seen this business do in the lives of my friends, and the possiblities it provides for my own family. If you want more information just let me know!

Hi J.,

I sympathize with you and I admire your passion for wanting to be at home with your baby. I am passionate about moms staying at home with their children.

Before starting a work from home job though, take a good look at your budget. Cut back on EVERYTHING!! Babies don't really need much more than the tender love and care of their mothers. I say this, because working from home still takes your time and attention away from your baby, unless you work at night when your husband is at home or vice versa. If you make enough money, you could hire a nanny to be in your home while you work, but then the nanny is doing most of the childcare, not you.

My advise would be to try to not work at all. Your child will benefit tremendously from your time and attention, but most of all the love that you can give him or her. No one, childcare, nanny, daycare, etc., will love and care for your child the way you will. They won't be proud or ammused when he rolls over for the first time, or when he takes his first step, or says Mama......the list obvously goes on and on.

If you are breastfeeding, imagine the money you save on formula. Cut out fast food and entertainment. Find things at home that you enjoy. Cut out cable if you must and extra's on your phone that you don't need. Do you really need a cell phone? Have a garage sale and get rid of things that you don't need. Basically, do whatever you can to be at home with you baby and make it more financially comfortable.

I've seen calculators on the net that tell you how much you are really making when you work outside the home and pay for childcare. In many cases, you aren't actually bringing home much. Your clothing bill is smaller, you don't pay for lunches outside the home. No employee parties, baby gifts, departing gifts, etc. I assume you are married.

TAlk to your husband about your desires and talk about the direction of your family in the next 5 year if you don't plan to have children and the next 10 years if you want more soon.

I have 4 children. I quit a well paying job to stay at home 10 years ago and I have not regretted it one bit. I cut back on spending, which was a HUGE deal for me, the former credit card queen. I've tried from time to time to work from home. It can work, but you have to be very clever and make sure it doesnt' take time from your child.

I wish you the best. Please update us on what you decide. I'm pulling for you. You can e-mail me privately if you like. I want to see this happen for you because I've been there and I am so happy with my choice.

Warmly,

Michelle

I would try to find work doing what you do outside the home inside the home.

I'm a paralegal, and I work from home. You just have to ask around in the industry you're in, make connections, negotiate.

If the work you're doing now, can be done at home ask your boss if you can work something out. Maybe part-time.

If that doesn't work out, there's always doing day-care for others or direct sales.

I do direct sales on the side, and it's fun, but it takes alot of time and effort.

Good luck!

Hi! J....your email was forwarded to me by another Mom. Several years ago, I found myself in a simialr situation. I was totally unprepared for the strong emotions that came over me as I held MY CHILD. My husband said he read it in my eyes that there was NO WAY I was leaving that baby to go back to work. But we NEEDED the income! The answer for me was to become a Mary Kay Consultant which was TOTALLY out of my comfort zone! I was new to the place I was living and didn't even know anyone. Amazing what we will do for our children...isn't it? Bottom line, it has allowed me to stay home with my children. I have learned things that have helped me in raising them, and it has been fun as well. I just scheduled my work when my husband was available to be with the kids. One of the best results from that is they have developed a wonderful relationship with him. If you want more information, what is the best way for me to get information to you? Email or Phone Call? My number is ###-###-#### ... cell ###-###-####... P.
