What Should I Use for Halloween Makeup on My Little Bear?

Hi everyone!
My 2 year old daughter will be a sweet, little bear for Halloween. Her costume is 1 piece with a hood that ties on like a hat. I'd like to draw a little nose on her to complete the costume, but I'm not sure what to use. I'd like to do a little pink nose because she's a girl.....lip liner? I'd love to hear some ideas!

What can I do next?

what i would do is get yourself the black water-based make-up (so you know it's okay to use on her skin) and color the tip of her nose then extend a small line down to her upper lip and give her some cute animal freckles. that's pretty much all you need for a bear. but if you find you don't want to try, you could always take a trip to linvilla orchard and get her face painted that day. eyeliner may be too tough to get off and the water-based make-up will come off easily with a babywipe. good luck!

My daughter has been a bear, a lion and a black cat over the years. I have always made her costumes and now this year she wants to be the wicked witch from the wizard of oz. So face painting is something we do every year. I wash her face very well, make sure I put some baby lotion on her face where ever I am going to put the "makeup"... I use eyebrow pencil to make the nose...just coloring in the end of her nose and to make dots for whiskers (cats and lions). Washing off afterwards is easy, because of the lotion first, and usually it has rubbed off with all the activity of the night. Put on another coat of lotion after washing her face and you are all set.

My oldest daughter was a cat for halloween two years ago. I used a face painting kit that i brought from a craft store. It came with a book with some great pictures and ideas in it. I'm not an artist but I thought it looked okay when I was done.

Hi C., To respond to your question. My daughter last year for Halloween was a tiger and I used eyeliner to make her nose. I had asked her doctor about using make up before I did it and he said it was fine as long as she dont break out from it. So I would test it on a little area of her skin before using it.

I have found that that makeup they sell for halloween, is a pain to get off. I have always used my makeup on my daughter, which has been much better. I think your idea is great.

I'd go with the lip liner, it will wash off easily and you know it's non-toxic. Last year my daughter was a cat and I drew whiskers on her with eyeliner.

C.,

I think lip-liner sounds like a fine idea, especially if you put a layer of moisturizer down first to make it easier to take off later.

I also found a recipe online for homemade face paint that is non-toxic while looking for the finishing touches for my daughter's costume this year. They suggest mixing 2 Tablespoons of cornstarch with 1 Tablespoon of vegetable shortening. Use food coloring to achieve the shade you want (there are usually directions on the box for the ratio of drops to use for each color). Then dusting the finished product with cornstarch to "set" it.

The only part that worries me with this recipe is that she may break out from the shortening. Then again she sometimes seems to break out for no reason at all, so who knows?

Happy Halloween!
