maybe hes not allergic to the smoke per say, but the kind of wood being burned? but that doesnt answer the cig smoke connection.
do you or anyone else in your household smoke? sounds like its a good time to quit. its likely that if you smoke, and did while pregnant, or someone you live did/does, he might have some kind of issue related to that. and when it comes down to it, whats more important? the expensive addiction, or your child? i would try that first, if thats an issue in your household. i know its not easy, but its for the best, and you wont regret it. and dont hesitate to get help! many many insurance companies have FREE help, if not ask your local county's health and human services dept for help.

im sorry you hvae to go through this. if you dont like what your doctor tells you, GET A SECOND THIRD OR EVEN FOURTH OPINION. dont stop at one doctor because he thinks he knows what it is. keep going on until you find a doctor who addresses your specific concerns, and gives you an answer you are satisfied with...

Your son could be allergic to something in the cigarette smoke--there are so many different chemicals used to make it. Per wood smoke--depends on what type of wood is being burned, and if it was treated with anything. Keeping him away from both cigarette smoke and wood/stove smoke should end the problem.

If it doesn't, your next step should be to take him to see a naturopathic doctor, who can test him for not only environmental and chemical allergies, but also allergy and intolerances to food. You'd be surprised what a food intolerance will do to the body. Some eczema has been traced to people being allergic/intolerant of certain foods. By not eating that food (or putting something on the body with the offending food, like body lotion or shampoo), most people are able to get their eczema to clear up.

sounds like the allergic reaction starts out as hives, they can cause blisters. I use reactine for my allergies which always manifest in skin conditions. I couldnt live without those pills. I think they make a childrens version, may be worth a try. But how does he get exposed to cigarette smoke in an age where its banned everywhere? or a wood stove?
