HI! My son is 5 and is very very active. From watching him this summer dance to the music on TV and watching him on the Trampoline I have decided I think he would LOVE gymnastics, only problem-I don't know where to go for him that will accomodate him later if he decides to stay in it and I want a good school (don't we all?). I think it would also help him with coordination and such, get him more exercise (yeah! lose energy!).

What can I do next?

Debbie Howards gym in Olathe. The number is ###-###-####. They are SUPER enthusiastic and the kiddos have a GREAT time. They even except special needs children and have weekend activities once a month. Good luck to you!

Hi Kendee,

Debbie Howard is a great coach; not to mention a former Olympic gymnast. She has coached for 40 years. She doesn't do competitive gymnastics. However, your son is probably not ready for that. Starting him somewhere where the coach is nurturing would be a great start.
My daughter competed with KGDC, and the coaches were good...but you really don't get the one on one nurturing experience.
Starting with a good foundation and being taught how to do things properly is good, and with the other gyms, their primary focus is on their teams.
At any rate, I am sure that you will find a great gym. Look for smaller class sizes.
We now do competitive cheerleading and we practice at Debbie's gym.
Good luck in your search!

Take Care,
F.

My daughter and her friends go to Kansas Gym and Cheer down in Olathe just a little southeast of 119th and I-35 (near the old Benchmark and new Bass Pro Shop). We have been going there for quite awhile now and love it. If you try it out, please tell them I referred you (I think there are discounts on the next session). Here is their website.

Hi Kandee,

I like Elite and Emerald City! That's my favorite! They have lessons and also a huge place for the kids to play freely with great equipment. They are located a little north from the Oak Park Mall, I believe is 91st and a couple of blocks east....it is next to soccer America. He'll love it!
Have fun!

Kendee:

I, too, am looking for a class (tumbling) for my 2 year old. I know that Johnson County Park and Rec, My Little Gym, Gymboree and Elite gym offer classes. I will be interested to read other suggestions.

I see you're in KCK, we go to Byrd's Dance and Gymnastics. Their website is www.byrdsdanceandgym.com. They are located right beside the WalMart on 60-something and State Avenue however, they are getting ready to build a new building closer to 435. They have impressed me beyond belief. I will never take my kids any place else. They have boys tumbling and lots of different options for dance when they are 6 or older. They offer jazz, ballet, tap, hip hop, gymnastics. Lots of great classes and wonderful teachers. If you have any questions, feel free to email me and ask :)

i believe emerald city has boys classes beyond preschool and a good boys competitive team if that were the direction he were to go. im sure there are others, try www.usa-gymnastics.org, there is so much on it, it might be a tough site to maneuver, but under programs, choose mens and there is usually a state site that lists clubs and which programs they offer.
