Ahhhhh I forgot it was picture day!! She wore a cute outfit, but today is the first day in 3 weeks I threw her hair up in a ponytail. I dont even know why I did, I wash it and blow dryed it this morning and just decided to throw it up. I usually do her hair all cute every morning. She was out sick yesterday and after the long weekend I completely forgot about it.
Last year I forgot about a half day. Luckily I was coming back from running errands and saw the highschoolers getting off the bus, which THANK GOD they get out 30 min before elementary and I was able to get her in time.
Whats wrong with me??????

What can I do next?

Nope you are not alone, sister!

I downloaded a free Mom's Calendar/Family Planner for my phone (Cozi). I had read about it Real Simple Magazine. You can color code each family member and it sends emails or texts to remind you of appointments and stuff. I can see exactly what is planned for the day (little widget right on my phone) without opening the app. What's great is that it will send reminders to my husband too. :D

That is what retake day is for...send the pics back and get them retaken. My poor son looks like he has a gun to his head and was told to "smile or else" in his pics.

You are a busy mom, that's what's "wrong" with you :) I am in the same boat. I have taken to using the calendar alarms on my cell phone to remind me of things like this and as a back up, the calendar reminders on my computer. If you are diligent about setting them (if you *remember* to set them!) they will keep you from forgetting things! I have reminders set on my phone for everything from when to leave for school pickup, gym day reminders (make sure they have gym shoes on!), after school activity days, etc.
With so much to remember, you've got to have a system!

Nothing is wrong with you.
Last night I realized 10 minutes after I tucked my kids in that my 5 yr old had homework. It was a good time for me to tell him that even grownups make mistakes so he should never be afraid to admit his mistakes. Turn your woopsie into a teachable moment.

Calendar with a pen color for each kid......make yourself look at it each night before bed to be sure you aren't missing anything.

Don't worry.
In the big scheme of things......it doesn't really matter.
Just think......your baby girl is happy, healthy & hopefully enjoying school!
I know we all want pictures to commemorate things but if you really think
about it.....it's just a picture.
You keep her safe and happy.
That's what really matters & we don't need a picture for that.
So give yourself a huge break & don't give it a second thought.
Hope that helps! :)

So not alone! I fell asleep once when I had my infant (she never slept ) and my 5th grader was just sitting outside of the school for 35 minutes!! Poor guy! You sure can take for granted the value of sleep!

You sound like a mama to me! You have so many things to keep track of... why shouldn't you forget a picture day?

I recommend something entirely non-21st-century: a big wall calendar. No handheld or computerized device has ever been able to replace it adequately. Get one with big spaces, hang it in your kitchen, and let it be your extra brain. Seriously.

(Speaking of picture days, do you know what I would do to drive my mom crazy (inadvertently) when I was in grade school? I'd get the parent notice about pictures, listen to my teacher say to take it home, stuff it in my desk, and forget all about it. Then my mother would see the picture they took, with me in my worst school clothes and my hair every which way, and she'd almost scream. I NEVER had a school picture worth sending to the relatives.)

Molly,

There's a great calendar at www.flylady.net that I absolutely love! The squares are huge so you can write all of her school activities down and still have space for your and your husband's appointments.

You can even buy a sticker kit to help you remember. I use stickers for dentist and doctor appointments because I always forget if they are not flagged, highlighted and have a reminder the week before.

Don't worry, many of us have been where you are. You'll figure out a way to cope and get through the rest of the year.

FlyLady says "You're not behind, just jump in where we are." This means, don't worry about what you didn't get done or what you missed yesterday, instead, focus on today and what you can do now.

Hugs,
C. J.

I usually don't remember picture day. I could see where a long weekend and her being sick could mess you up. You just have a busy life. Calendars and reminders don't help me any more. I bet your not the 1st mom whose forgot to get their kids from school.

Geez, why the heck did the school put it so early in the year? Parents are still getting used to back-to-school! It's not you, it's them :-)

I am having a tough time keeping track of all my son's stuff--this form, that form, this event, that event, coffees, charitable drives, special days...we're not even 3 full weeks in and I am already feeling overwhelmed!
