Hi Ladies,

So my question is do any of you Mama's have (or have gotten) peek a boo highlights? I am thinking about getting them, but wanted to hear from those who have gotten them. Also, any good salons in the Plainfield area that can do a good job on this type of highlight?

I'm a hairstylist and have been getting these done/doing them for years. They are perfect for people who are on a budget, who don't get their hair done frequently, who like small changes, who want to stay fairly natural, but want a splash of color, or who like to get drastic changes and stay trendy. They are very versatile. So, defiantly I would suggest them.

to answer Lilac:

peekaboo highlights are sections of hair colored under other areas of hair, also known as windows... so that any regrowth won't show through (which is good for naturally experimenting with color like me, who usually let mine grow out). It can be done to frame the face, on the side of the head, in the bang area if you wear bangs, in the back. They can be very drastic in color, or they can be subtle and fairly natural.. for intense a nice caramel color if you have brown hair. or if you want to try something daring, like platinum or red. pics of them here;

subtle platinum on a short bob:

heavy blonde on a brunette:

red on a blonde:

Ive done this many times, a pale blonde highlight looks great with an allover darker brown/blond on short hair:

this sounds like the highlights I do on myself. My stylest (finally broke down & saw one, which is rare for me!) was very impressed with them! I pull up 1/2 my hair, and put 1 or 2 on each side, same in the back, drop a few layers & repeat, drop some more layers & repeat, no foils. (the hairdresser thought I'd had foils done) I coat the hair in the bleach mixture thoroughly (but making sure its not so thick that it gets on the "under hair"), twist the hair, and let it fall where it naturally sits, so if there were any transfer, its not noticeable. Its cheap (I buy bulk product at sally for under 30$, it lasts forever) easy & quick. (I should note this is likely easier on lighter brown or blonde hair like mine, if you are darker you would probably need a toner or color over the bleached sections)

*wow I just looked at those links, that is NOT what mine look like at all, mine look very natural and are subtle highlighted PIECES that poke out here & there. It looks great in pony tails & french braids.

I'm curious...being someone who is on a budget and likes to get her hair done...what are peek a boo highlights? I've never heard of them before. What do you usually pay for them?

I go to Salon Nine in downtown Plainfield and see Ryan. He is great. If you like them on facebook you can get some good coupons.

I don't know about the type of highlights you are talking about but I am sure you can call them and ask.
