Not Losing Any Weight!!!

Ok I stopped eatting red meat (hamburger,steaks, bacon, ham etc.) and only eat chicken or fish and cooked healthy no breading no frying. My stomach hurt before all the time and now it doesnt but I cant lose any weight I lost 10 pounds my first two weeks, Im extremely overweight and am really bothered by being fat. I only drink water no sugar this is the best I have ever done. I exercise too and still nothing. Im only 28 and know that this is not the right way to live being obese (it bothers my kids they are embarassed of me) I want this with all my heart and its not coming off. I stopped having a period (i have my tubes tied) in August I feel better but just wont lose weight. I cant afford to go to the Dr. because I dont have insurance could I be going through menopause? I portion everything I eat as well I dont eat unhealthy. When I diet I lose weight every week and never have had a problem and now I am. Even for Thanksgiving I didnt even over do it. I have done well but wont lose weight.

You need to do "interval training."
Even pro athletes do this.
Look it up online... or via www.prevention.com which is a great magazine... for health/exercise.

Have you ever looked into the possibility that you may have PCOS google it if you do not know what it is. I have it and my Cousin also has it and we both didnt find out until we had kids. Just a thought. I am 24 and that is why I could not loose weight.

Are you exercising? If you could do some weight bearing exercise (only if your doctor says it is safe) you might give yourself more of a metabolic edge. I also try to walk 6 days a week.

I agree with the PCOS suggestion - you may want to look into that too.

About the only thing that helps me is to write down every single thing I eat or drink throughout the day. It's amazing how quickly it adds up. As they say at Weight Watchers, BLT's ("bites, licks & tastes") can really sabotage your efforts.

One suggestion is to put a subscription to Weight Watchers' online only program on your Christmas/Hannukah wish list or at the very least a subscription to their magazine. The online program isn't too expensive and it will tell you just how much food you need to be eating to lose weight. What I love about Weight Watchers is that it isn't a diet. You won't have to eliminate any food groups, so it's easy to maintain this for life. I did their online only program until I reached my goal weight and by then I knew just what to do to maintain my weight.

A couple of thoughts on why you may be stalling:
1. You're not eating enough and your body is going into starvation mode. I had this happen to me doing SparkPeople.com, which put me on way too low a calorie count. I couldn't figure out why I hadn't dropped a single pound when I was being so good about eating and exercise. When I committed to Weight Watchers and increased the food I was eating, the weight started coming off.
2. Portion size. Are you eating chicken and fish portions that are the size of a deck of cards? That is a portion. I learned through WW how to eat the right amount ... not what I thought was the right amount. It was an eye-opener.

Are you getting enough calories? One of the main things they keep stressing on Biggest Loser is that you HAVE to eat to lose weight....BUT you have to eat RIGHT. I've been where you are and I'm proud to say that I've managed to break that cycle--I'm now down 27 lbs and counting. PM me & maybe we can help each other out:)

Since you are exercising and eating healthy, one suggestion would be to count the calories you eat on an average day. There are a few free websites that will tell you, but also look at the boxes, etc everything comes out of and write it all down for about a week. After that check your daily totals and see how many and cut back total calorie number from there. My husband was working on losing weight and he ended up using a free program that told him how many calories to eat a day based on his weight, age, and activity level to loose weight and it did work really well. The main thing was decreasing calorie intake, but not an extreme.

Im right there with you, ive stayed from 170 to 175 since i had my baby 2 years ago, i dont eat meat at all, and have salad with 2 of my every 3 meals in a day, i exercise every day from 20 to 45 minutes, and i cant lose 5 lbs to save my life! It seems like this is the weight my body wants to keep since i breastfeed, but its ruining my self image.

I freaked out about my weight after I had my baby a few mos. ago I still have 20 pounds to go and not 20 vanity pounds either but I see progress every week little by little a pound comes off here and there. I read about this formula of multiplying your weight by 12 and that's how many calories your eating to maintain your weight they recommend subtracting 500 calories a day to get results. Just think skinny I know it sounds crazy and you will feel like your starving but just ask your self "would a skinny person eat this" soon after I realize that I wasn't even that hungry and push the plate away. Good luck I know you can do it

Your body could be in "starvation mode where it is hoarding the calories you DO eat....eat more frequent smalle meals/healthy snacks throughout the day (like 5) instead of 3, so your body knows it will be getting food more frequently.
Hang in there, sounds like you've made so,e very healthy changes to your life! Most likely you've hit a plateau--it will come to an end eventually. And the fact that you lost 5 lbs. per week for 2 weeks is not likely to continue week after week. Focus on the way your clothes fit, not the # on the scale! You've gotta be seeing a difference, right?

I wish you could go to the doctor to see if there is any medical reason you are not losing weight. But, I will share my experience. After I had my second kid, I went from 156 lbs to 112 lbs on weight watchers. I truly believe its the healthiest and easiest way to lose weight. Let me know if you have any questions.

I recently lost 78 lbs and am now maintaining. First, you do not need to stop eating all red meat. What you need to do is to specifically track your calories each day. There are many free sites online to help you do this. I used Calorie Count. You should be able to google it to find it. I agree with the others who said you need to tell us exactly what you are eating. Also how much and when. Then let us know what type of exercises you are doing and for how long. Then I can help you better.

Hi Meand...You've got a lot of good advice so far, and maybe some that is not exactly correct. Here is what I know, based on a series of wellness classes I am taking taught by a Naturopath who has her PhD in Nutrition. Please feel free to contact me if you'd like to explore any of the points I am going to list.

1. You must keep a food diary for a minimum of 2 weeks. Write EVERYTHING down. People are notoriously inaccurate when asked to recall what they eat. They overstate the + and understate the negative. Not saying you do this, but it's the only way to get an accurate picture of what you are doing.

2. If you must count something, count grams of fiber. Counting calories tends to lead to feelings of deprivation. Counting grams, aim to get at least 50 gms every day (start slow and build to let your digestive system adjust). Eating fiber rich foods automatically means you are eating calorie poor foods. Fiber rich foods also have the nutrients necessary for your body to properly function in terms of immune system function, reduction of the risk of degenerative diseases, just to start. You won't have to worry about how many calories you should or should not eat...your body will automatically reach the weight it is supposed to be all by itself. So,
3. An optimal diet consists of 90% (by calories) plant based foods: fruits, veggies, whole grains, beans/legumes, nuts and seeds. Minimize animal protein and eliminate diary. Please visit www.pcrm.org and look for a) the Vegetarian Starters Kits, and b) put diary in the search box and read about 'why not milk'. Animal protein contains mostly fat and calories and chicken and fish are only slightly better than red meat. The leanest beef is about 26% fat and chicken breast is 21% fat. I'm not saying you have to be a vegetarian or a vegan, but it is good to eat that way several times a week. Go to www.vegetariantimes.com to find GREAT recipes.
4. Yes, it is possible to eat too few calories. If so, your body will hold onto calories because it thinks it is starving. I can tell you a great story about a friend who added 600 calories a day and then started losing weight.
5. Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think that having your tubes tied have anything to do with not having menstrual cycles any longer. There is something else going on there. An optimal diet might help you there as well. I can explain how.
6. YOU MUST EXERCISE. How that happens doesn't matter as long as you do it.
7. Make this a family thing. What's good for you is good for the rest of the family. You want to set them up for a lifetime of good health habits.

I would be happy to help you in any way that I can, even if it's just to be a cheerleader and someone neutral to be accountable to. I can share my resources from my wellness classes. The knowledge of the healing power of food is not well known. We must take control of our own health as our medical system is not set up to support health. Thank God they can fix things, but I'd rather not be in that position if I can help it.

I would first take a pregnancy test to make sure you are not pregnant. Your tubes can regrow after having your tubes tied. Then I would join something like Weight Watcher's which has helped me lose weight and keep it off. It could be that you aren't eating enough and your body is storing what it gets. There are steps to losing weight when one is obese. You have to go down slowly in portion size. I get told every day from my wii fit that I am obese, but I am slowly losing weight. It is the small steps that help. I know you say you are exercising, just keep on it. Make sure it is at least 20 minutes straight with your heart rate elevated. I was up to 48 minutes with my heart rate elevated before my car accident a week ago, so I am down to 18 minutes and next week up to 25 minutes and then up a little more the following week until I finally get to where I was per my doctors orders. Anyhow, just keep eating healthy and exercising regularly every day. I would even try to get on Access and see a doctor. I hope you make your goal of losing the weight and feeling happier. Take care

There are a couple of things that I have done that have helped. I did the south beach diet. I took off weight consistently with it. However, I got sort of bored with that eating lifestyle, so it wasn't long term for me (kept it off, but haven't lost more from it). I would consider using it again if I needed to. I also have been using Isagenix, and really love it. Down side is that it is expensive. But, it replaces 2 meals a day, so that cuts down on your grocery bills (send me a message if you want more info about it). I actually love using their products and feel so healthy on them. The other thing I do is called T-Tapp. It is a low impact exercise DVD that takes about 15 minutes a day to do. It is named after Theresa Tapp, who developed it. You can google it. It takes major inches off and quickly. I now just do it every other day. I have lost a couple of sizes by using it. It isn't hard, but it is very effective. It sounds like you are doing the right things as far as eating/water goes. I seriously doubt you could be going through menopause at 28. I guess it isn't totally impossible, but not likely. What about breads? I would suggest cutting out all white stuff: potatoes, bread, sugar. Those tend to be the major culprits in weight gain/loss. The south beach pretty much cuts them out of your diet. Best wishes on this. It is such a good thing that you are trying to get this under control now. It is not easy. Remember that it didn't all come on in a day, so it won't come off in one either. Feel free to IM me.

There IS an actual condition where you wont loose weight, and can actually gain weight. It is called cushings , and it causes your adrenal gland to put out high amounts of the hormone called cortisol. By the way, the adrernal gland also puts out the sex hormones testosterone ,progesterone, and estrogen so problems with the menses will also surface. Polycistic ovary sydrome is also caused by adrenal /hormone malfunction,..Look up PCOS.

Google "cushings" and see if it fits with any of your symptoms.

i agree with the others talking about how much you're eating. portion size is extremely important; however, be sure you aren't eating too little. what you're doing sounds right. refined white sugar is the devil- no one needs it and you get more than enough sugars in fruits, etc.

stick to eating right and exercising- sometimes it takes a little longer for more weight to drop.

Have you had your thyroid checked? Or considered other possible medical causes? I know you said you don't have insurance; what about going to a county health clinic? They usually charge on a sliding pay scale. I think you should get checked out: if you're really doing everything right and nothing is changing, there may be a medical reason for it.

Keep at it, you lose weight fast but ya plateu sometimes. Keep at it and even though you may not lose all you want to be healthy on the inside is best. Im overweight but my BP/heart/thyroid/liver everything is that of an athlete. Check to see if any medications may be causing you to keep the weight on. Also if you just started your going to hit a wall here and there, its ok give it a week or two step up your routine and watch the weight slowly drop again. Its not a diet its a lifestyle change you will have to do this for the rest of your life to be thin and stay thin.

I know you are focused on losing weight at the moment, but I am concerned that you stopped having a period. Have you taken a pregnancy test? It is possible to get pregnant after a tubal ligation. You can get a test at the dollar store if you are strapped for cash.

You said you portion everything, eat healthy and exercise. You should be losing weight. I am sure there are medical issues you could be having that would make you not lose weight as some of the previous posts have suggested. But at 28 you should not stop having a period due to menopause. Having your tubes tied has nothing to do with the shedding of lining of your uterus (aka period).

Nutrition is truly the key to balancing weight. That being said, your body has to absorb the nutrition. My husband tried everything to lose weight. He would lose it, usually on a fad diet, but he would always gain it back with a vengence. I decided I was not going to let him worry about his weight but get him healthy and I started him on a multivitamin/mineral complex that is guaranteed to absorb. He lost 110 pounds. The first 60 of it without changing his eating habits or his activity level. His body had simply not been able to absorb the nutrition it needed to keep the body healthy. Once he lost the first 60 pounds he was light enough to start running again. He lost 50 more while running and continuing his nutrition.He went from 398 pounds to 288. This was 5 years ago and he has kept it off. You can eat well, but if your body is not able to absorb the nutrition, for several of many reasons, the weight will simply stay there.
