Missing Periods

Hello,
I've been breastfeeding and my daughter is going to be 1 soon and I still haven't had a period... should I talk to my DR about this? I have the Paragaurd as well, not sure if that has anything to do with it.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

Thanks i feel so much better now!!! I was just worried, and no I don't want more children right now.

Every mom is different, and I wouldn't worry about it. I got my period after 3 months while I was still exclusively breastfeeding around the clock, so I was actually a little worried about that because I thought it was unusual. By the way - I am so glad I didn't count on breastfeeding for birth control. My OB warned against it, she said she delivers babies every year who were conceived that way. I love my daughter, and I do want more kids, but I was not ready to be pregnant again within three months!

I didn't have a period until well after I stopped breastfeeding at 15 months with both of my children. Don't worry. My doctor had no problems with it at all. Enjoy this time without it!

It's normal. I breastfeed my 16mo old daughter and also didn't have my period until she was about 12-13mos, by that time we weren't nursing as much, only morning and night(and still do)so when you're not producing as much milk your period comes back. Unless you want to get pregnant again then YEAH, if not(like myself) then UGH... who wants cramps and periods?! LOL!! rest assure, you are fine :)

have you supplemented with anything? pacifiers? or bottles?
if you do nothing but nurse everytime, it mat delay yout period. i don't know what effect the paraguard may have

E., I breast fed each of my 3 kids and never once had period as long as I saw still nursing. I wouldn't worry about it as long as you're nursing, but if you are feeling that something is wrong, call your doctor to put your mind at ease. God bless you for making this commitment to your daughter!!

Enjoy the freedom! My son is 17 months old, still nursing and i still do not have a period...and love it! It is normal, the average is 16 months, and there are variations ofcourse. You are completelly fine!

E.,
That is not uncommon not to have a period for that long. I have a 16 month old that I nursed until he was a year. I would have gotten a period right around 11 1/2 mos, but I got pregnant, so I never got one.
Consider yourself lucky!!!

No, don't worry about it. I didn't get mine until she was about 15 months and really eating more solids. I have friends who didn't get theirs again until after that. It depends on how much she's nursing and how much it is taking from your body to produce milk. Once she starts getting more of her nutrition from real food and nursing less, you'll get it back. If you really feel that there is something wrong, call the nurse first so you don't have to pay for a doctor's visit.
