Just a Little Scared!!!!

Last week my OB GYN called me and told me to come in,cause he needs to talk to me about my pap smear results.I had a well woman check up and now I'm scared cause I don't what he has to tell me.He said that he couldn't tell me on the phone I had to come in to the office.Ladies should I be worried or just be prepared for what he has to say to me?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

When I went to the dr. he told me that I had the HPV virus but he didn't give me any meds to take for this.I had this virus once before but when they told me I had it I went to the hospital for something else. They gave me some meds that time but I don't understand why my dr.didn't give me any.The only thing he told me is when I have intercourse that I need to use protection.I thank all of you who responded to my question and that was some good advice.

Hi R.,

I had an abnormal pap about 8 years ago- and had a procedure called Cryotherapy done to remove precancerous cells- haven't had a problem with that since. One time I had an abnormal pap and it was a bacterial infection- treated with meds. The fact that you take care of yourself enough to go to your dr is good news. My doctor told me that if I hadn't come in for my regular check ups the outcome would have been much worse. So pray about it- and ask God to give you His peace. Everything will be fine. Please let us know when you go to the dr. and keep us posted.

Take care!

Hi R.! I dont think you should worry at this moment. Abnormal paps could mean anything from a bacteria, infection, or any insignificant thing like that, that may require some meds. I got an abnormal pap once about 13 years ago. I had some cryo and got taken care of. I have never had anything abnormal since. Please don't worry about it. Try to keep your mind off of that until your appointment. Best of luck!!

Hi R.. I just had my first abnormal pap about 6 weeks ago and I had to go in and have a colposcopy done. It's kind of like another pap smear. Nothing to it really. Then they sent those results off and they came back negative. I wouldn't worry yourself about it. I've had many friends and family have abnormal paps. Sometimes there are false positives and they just have to check again to be sure. I have to have another pap in 6 months. Try not to worry, although I know it's hard not to.

Hi R., dont worry yourself just yet. It could have just been a clinical mistake and he'll redo the pap and it'll come back negative. I had a pap come back positive and they redid it and there was nothing there. Also if it did come back positive, by law, he's not suppose to give you test results over the phone. Some kind of privacy act thing. Just go in, get it redone and cross your fingers from there.

Good luck.
