Hi, My son is about to turn one in September. I am at a loss on what to do for his birthday. I want to have a small family party. Since he is the first grandchild, we don't have many kids in the family so it's hard to come up with any fun ideas. Please share what you did or any ideas you may have!!! Everything I have come up with, he is not old enough or there are not enough kids.

What can I do next?

We didn't really have any kids close to my daughters age in our family when she had her 1st birthday. We ended up just having everyone over and celebrating. We ate and socialized and had a great time. Really the first birthday is about the cake and watching the baby open his presents. One thing we did do was get a picture of my daughter and put it in one of the signing mats (you know for graduations and weddings) and had people sign and leave some words of wisdom for her. I hung the picture on her wall, she is now three and has me read her what people wrote all of the time =) She knows she's loved!

1st birthdays are so much fun. Our kids loved being involved with their siblings' party. The baby is somewhat oblivious to what is going on, but everyone else has a great time celebrating with them.

By the way if you need any entertainment, my husband and I are professional award winning Clowns living in Anna. We offer facepainting, balloon sculptures, friendship bracelets, magic, comedy along with fun interaction and games. We've entertained at birthday parties and large events like the Plano Balloon Festival.

Our prices are very reasonable (we have four great kids of our own so we know how expensive things can get)and we do our best to work within a person's buget.

at that age the games might be hard - but a slide show with old pics of him and people in the family would be fun for everyone! Also decorate your own cupcakes is fun!

The first birthday is for the family, not for the child. THey have NO idea what it's all about, but you and your family are excited and ready to celebrate. Do some stuff he likes to do, have a cupcake for him to eat and smoosh. Do the rest for your family and enjoy.
