How Long Did It Take You to Conceive?

Hi moms. I wanted to know how long it took you to conceive any of your children. My daughter was completely unplanned so there was no time or anticipation with her. We were on birth control and next thing you know, I'm pregnant. Now that we want a second child, we have been unsuccessful for four months now. I know that every woman and every conception is different and that I can't base the probability of my conception off of anyone else. I was just curious as to how many moms were lucky and conceived right away and how many moms struggled for months or years to have their own precious angels. Thank you for sharing your stories!

Not one of my three was planned. The first one was very unplanned, the second we had talked about but definitely were not "trying" then, and the third was a total shocker as well. I imagine if I were to try it wouldn't happen!! Good luck though!!

It took us 4 years of trying (I SO got to hate that basal thermometer and temp chart) and then we went a fertility specialist, and we were pregnant 6 weeks later with IVF. We just have our one son (had him when I was 36) (he's 11 yrs old now). We found we had multiple challenges to over come and we just can't get pregnant without help. We haven't used birth control since 1994.

Our first was unplanned and it was the one time we didn't use protection. Unfortunately the baby miscarried. Our second we were planning for and it took us 13 months of trying (we started trying about 3 months after the miscarriage). Our 3rd pregnancy happened 2 months into trying.

I think a lot has to do with your thoughts and stress level too (besides the obvious of ovulating). First, unplanned...not even thinking about it. 2nd we were desperately trying and getting upset that it wasn't happening and thinking maybe we wouldn't be able to. As soon as I relaxed thinking it was never going to happen...got pregnant. 3rd...came into it thinking it would take at least a year and it didn't. :) So try to relax and hopefully you'll get pregnant soon! :)

With our #2, it took us 12 months. BUT, this was b/c I had an ectopic the year before and my tube was clogged. An HSG test cleared it out and we were pregnant the same month.

It took us 9 months for my son (our first) and both 1 timers with my daughter and our soon to be baby due in November. Honestly, I think it took me 9 months to finally figure out my body with our first. I was completely clueless on when I ovulated and when the best time to conceive and all that stuff. I truly believe in understanding your body first and then trying to conceive. With my current pregnancy baby measures 1 day off on my due date which is exactly what I could expect with knowing how my body was working. I have never read it but I hear it suggested all the time to read the book "taking charge of your fertility".

Good luck and just enjoy the baby making :)

It took us 3 years to get our daughter. We tried everything and then had to go through IVF before we got her. It was a tough 3 years, but we got through it. Plus we got the best reward ever. I am now pregnant with out second and that was unplanned.

It took 12 months with my first, and my second was an oops after trying unsuccessfully for a couple of months and then deciding we couldn't really afford him : )

When I was getting really frustrated with my first, my OB put it like this: 80% of women get pregnant in the first 6 months of trying, and 80% of the leftover 20% get pregnant in the next 6 months. So your odds are very good within a 12 month year (but I know how long that feels). Good luck.

With our first it took two months of trying. With our second it took eight months. I think since my first was so quick I anticipated that the second would be the same and it was not the case. We were discouraged at first, but they relaxed and just let nature take it's course. Good Luck to you.

I went the fertility route with my first after 6 months of trying (and only 3 periods), and 6 months from that point. When I finished breastfeeding him at 14.5, I got a period, and boom, I was pregnant again. I'm using birth control this time around! :) I wasn't on it last time because we wanted another and though it would take just as long. We were lucky.

Both of our pregnancies were planned. For our first, it took about 9 months off the pill. Never tried, just didn't prevent. For our soon to be second (currently 11 weeks pregnant), we went off the pill. 2 weeks later.... pregnant. I thought it would take 6 or more months, since it did first time around. But we were blessed.
Good luck. Hope it works out for you.
