hey moms!!
My daughter will be 2 in december. She still takes the bottle. She can drink out of sippy cups, but to take a nap and at night she still takes the bottle. How can i get her off of it? She has never taken the pacifier, nor sucked her thumb. Her bottle is her comfort. Any suggestions on getting off the bottle?

What can I do next?

I went through this same thing about 3 years ago when my son was that age. I finally put a drop of hot sauce on the nipple. ( i did check with his doctor before doing this) After a few nights when the bottle tasted yucky, he wanted nothing to do with it. Bedtime and naptime became a breeze!! Its worth a shot. I know other moms that just didn't offer it and listened to the screaming for it as well.

Hi L.,
Well, I took the bottle from my son when he was 11 months old, no problem. My daughter was giving me a little bit of trouble so for her 1st b-day I gift wrapped a beautiful new sippy cup. She opened all of her gifts and loved her cup so I filled it with some water and just made a big deal about her drinking out of it. I then took her to the kitchen, grabbed all of the bottles, put them in a bag and with my toddler took the bag to the trash can outside. It seemed like she understood that even if she whined, the bottles were gone so it was no use. That worked for me! Maybe it will do the trick for you.

Take care!
L.

for my son, we stopped the bottle completely at 11months old... we would put his formual in the sippy cup and he had no problem with it... but that was him he wasn't attached to the bottle he just wanted to eat/drink!! now my daughter on the other hand (who just turned 10 months) i have a feeling she may be a little harder. my son held his own bottle feeding himself at like 4-5months or something in that range and he also did very well with sippy... my daughter can hold her bottle but WONT and she'll chew on the sippy cup spout but not really drink too much from it. i think i will jsut take the bottle away and give her the cup.... maybe you can try that and see what happens... maybe some screaming or irritatibility at first but hopefully it may work... maybe direct her attention to something else when giving her her milk before nap/bed... like a new toy or blanket or something... hope this helps a little?

Hi L.!
I've been in this similar situation recently. My daughter just turned two, Sept. 3rd and I started heating up her milk in her sippy cup (she won't drink it cold, unfortunately). she's just happy to have her milk,.. I guess it doesn't matter what it comes in to her. I give her one in the morning, after nap and after tub time in the evening.
I give her ice water in her sippy cup for bed..which works well for us.. So far so good. Best of Good luck to you! :)
