We are going to be traveling a lot this summer and I am nervous about bringing my rings. I would feel much better if they were home in the safe.
Does anyone where a fake wedding ring vs their real one at times?

What can I do next?

When i was married i had a simple fairly inexpensive ring that i would wear on vacation or when we went to the lake(fear of losing my real one in the water) same reason i only wear cheap sunglasses when i am gonna be on the water.

My hubby's is a fake. He lost his real one on a water slide. Although we could afford a new one, it killed him to pay what the jewelers wanted for a new custom ring. So he bought a $14 titanium ring off amazon and put the hammer finish on himself. I hate to admit it, but it looks better than the original. He's been wearing it for two years now.

My dad bought my mom one to wear when hers was getting fixed. The bummer was that EVERYONE noticed it and commented on how beautiful it was!! HA!

She was embarrassed to tell them it was fake, but felt that not telling them was like lying.

Hi molly-

I have not worn my wedding rings since my separation and divorce.

When I met pete...and we had been dating for about 2 years, he was diagnosed with cancer. I got him (and me) some celtic knot 'bands' in sterling silver and onyx. They were my 'promise' to see him through his cancer rings!

They really helped though when he was going through treatment...and subsequent surgery. Even though I had 'official' medical power of attorney, the rings saved many questions I did not have the time (or the desire) to answer.

I still where them now!

This weekend, we celebrate 4 years of his survival of surgery (and still no evidence of disease)...

We are blessed!
Best Luck!

I am fully insured and I don't wear fake jewelry.

I have a very nice sized solitaire, earrings about 1/2 size each of the diamond and gold Rolex. This is all the jewelry I ever wear.

However, I have been known to leave the watch and ring in the safe at home while on a trip. I never take the earrings out except to clean them.

I am going to South Beach in Miami soon with my daughter for a mom/daughter trip and I will leave the watch and rings in the safe. Normally, I would wear my jewelry on a trip but since it is just us, I prefer not to have it because I don't want to call attention to myself and my ring does that.

Just do what you feel most comfortable with and enjoy your trip.

OMG my mom has prob 100 rings that she switches out on a daily basis - all of which she wears on her wedding ring finger. I have never refered to them as her "fake rings" though. It's a ring. It's not fake. It's real. I can see it on her finger. Sure it's not the exact ring that she was given 40 years ago when she got married but it's on her wedding ring and it shows my dad and others that she wants to proclaim "I am married."

So yes - wear a "different" ring other than your precious wedding ring. I will often wear an amethyst to match my purple attire, or a fun wavy silver band or really anything. If it's on the right finger who cares what it looks like?

(On a side note, my FORMER MIL asked me one time when I was wearing an amethyst ring - a family heirloom - "So, you're not married today?" What a biach. Of course I was still married to her son. Give me a break. She didn't even wear a ring b/c of her religion. Good riddance to her for being so rude.)

I have a friend who has a CZ ring from wal-mart that she wears when she's not comfy wearing her real wedding ring, like when she's working (retail). I have an office job and don't travel much so I don't have a fake one. Probably if you're going to be doing a lot of swimming, hotel stays, etc., a fake ring is a good idea!

Yes; I'm 6 months pregnant and worried about swelling, so I'm wearing a fake one. Well, it's "real" just swaroski crystals instead of diamonds. My husband got it for me while our real wedding rings were being created. Having said that, I've also taken my "fake" one on vacation as well. Much safer at home/in a safety deposit box. Just my $.02.

We have a stainless steel set I bought online for like $20. They are gorgeous and indestructible. My husband actually prefers his stainless steel ring.

We're looking at getting a "vacation" set. After having a friend lose her ring at the beach, we decided we'd get a cheap set so something like that wouldn't happen. As Tracy mentioned, SS sets are fairly cheap. We're also looking at tungsten carbide for the same reason.

When I consider my ring in peril I take it off. For me this is usually only when gardening or heavy work around the house. Never really thought to take it off on vacation. Probably should have since Italy is kind of known for thieves, oops. O well, too late now.

I think had I considered that before going to Italy I would have invested in a gold band. I am really not comfortable not wearing my ring for periods longer than a couple hours. I am strange that way. It has to be at least gold because I am allergic to alloys. :(

If I am wearing mine...Chances are it is my fake QVC one...

With the kids....and the fact I have never liked wearing jewelry playing a huge role in why I dont wear mine at all.

In fact I dont even know where my real ring is.....I know it is somewhere in our house...and if and when we ever move...I will find it.

If you will be traveling and are afraid you may loose it, then yes, you should get a fake one...No one will notice:)

I eventually am going to get one tattooed on. Finding a place that will do it has been a bit of a Challenge....But I will get it done eventually...

It would all depend in where I was going as to if I would or not. But if you don't feel comfortable with wearing it I would for sure get a fake one at least you would have one on.

My wedding ring is just a simple gold band. I wear it always. Before I was engaged or married, I did have a few fake engagement rings that I wore often. It helped keep some of the wolves at bay while attracting a different type of wolf. Yet I have none of those rings now, my neices and mother helped themselves to them all once I became engaged and married for real.

I wouldn't worry about it unless you are particularly careless with your rings.

Molly:

You are very pretty - so you are going to catch a lot of attention on your own. If your wedding set screams "money" and you are traveling? I would leave it at home. Especially if you are already nervous about it.

My engagement was stolen in 2004. We've never been able to find a replacement for it. So I wear my simple gold band...I have several rings that I wear...but not on vacation.

My husband and I both still look for a replacement ring....we'll find one one day....

Just wear a wedding band. Keep It Simple Silly...

I plan to have a dup made of mine that is "fake" should I decide to go back to waiting tables/cocktail/bartending ... I think for travelit would not be a bad idea either. Now, I would like it to look like my actual ring aside from being blue topaz and white sapphires vs aquamarine and diamonds.

Depends on where I'm going. I do have a simple gold-plated band I've worn when I went to Mexico and Central America. Europe, I usually wear my regular jewelry.
BUT, with the increase in the gold value, I've now heard of 2 different women, one I know personally, who had gold chains ripped off their neck in Europe. The one lady I know was in a very public tourist area of Barcelona, Spain.

I have a set that I got from QVC that I wear to places where I don't want to take a chance of losing my wedding set. I also have a gold band I wear to the beach or in the gardens. Someone mentioned that they wear their everywhere and for everything, there are a lot of chemicals that eats away at the gold and other precious metals and stones.

Nah...I always figure I';m in greater danger of losing my ring if I take it on, off, on, off, etc. So I leave it on everywhere...shower, ocean, white water rafting! LOL
But actually, for travel, that might not be a bad idea....

Simple bands also work if you're really worried about wearing a fake ring.

The "fake" rings look really good now. I wear them all the time and I use to work in a fine jewelry store!

I did when I was pregnant with my first. I blew up like a balloon and my wedding set didn't fit. I felt weird being pregnant and not wearing a wedding ring. So I wore a fake set. Looked pretty good for what it was :)

I get my wedding ring cleaned and redipped at least once a year. So while it is in the jewelers I have a few fake ones I wear. Just for fun. I'm so used to having my ring on, my fingers feel funny without it. So yeah I will wear a fake one once in a while.
