What do you use on your kiddos and self as a mosquito repellant?
What do you use after getting bitten a few times?
How about your back yard?

We were attacked on an outing last Friday and today I took the twins out for a morning walk...yup, we were attacked again. I had put sunblock and Skin So Soft on my boys but forgot about me. One of my sons did get one new bite today and I got 3!

What do you use?

Garlic oil has been working for us so far. My son is highly allergic and the mosquitos really love him, too. They seem to like me also but I'm not allergic like he is. Anyway...I just got garlic oil from the cooking section (with the olive oils, etc.--mine is actually olive oil infused with garlic). Just rub it on the feet and then put a pair of socks on. The garlic will quickly absorb into the bloodstream and mosquitos hate garlic. Whatever is left on my hands after rubbing in the feet I just smear on the arms and legs. You will smell a little like garlic but I think it smells better than all of those bug sprays, plus it's non toxic!

To treat bights, tea tree oil has worked the best for my son.

I don't LIKE it, but I use the Cutter spray in my back yard. Just on the bushes that are the worst places that harbor the mosquitoes. That stuff also kills other critters, some are harmless.

We are going to begin clearing out some of the bushes and vines in our yard. It's a beautiful garden, but I don't like having to spray like that. Clearing out thick bushes and the English ivy growing to cover the fence is going to help. My attempts to use organic methods didn't work, and my kids love our back yard, so...

The Cutter stuff is widely available and lasts in our yard about 3 weeks very effectively. The 4th week, they start coming back. Spraying more heavily doesn't make it last longer.

good luck, and let us know what you choose and how it works!

p.s. Does SSS from Avon truly work? I don't like to use the sprays directly on my girls, even the ones that are "family safe." I haven't tried SSS yet and would like to know.

Hello. I have a new product we are testing, bug repellant lotion, but I cannot make the claim that it keeps mosquitos away. But I can tell you when testing it at a party outside last weekend in Oklahoma, where it had just rained and the mosquitos where terrible, it worked great! Everyone else was attacked except for my four year old daughter (who really gets big welps from their bites), I did not get one bite, my husband or my father. I did not put any on my daughter the next day when visiting an Uncle and she was outside for only 10 - 15 minutes and got over 6 bites! She only got one when she was at the party for hours. If you are interested in this lotion, which contains only natural indgredients, and essential oils, please email me at ____@____.com. I put in on my daughter everday before she gets dressed so she won't be "bugged"! Thank you and have a great week!

We use the dryer sheets, too, and our kids really don't get bites when we use them. Maybe some people are too sweet! ;)

Tia,

The Bounce sheet didn't work for me, but the skeeters LOVE me. I've been using the Off Skintastic. The kids notice it helps a lot.

Tuck a Bounce fabric sheet through the belt loop on your pants.
I thought that was silly the first time I heard it but it actually works. Plus it doesn't harm the children.

I found a product for the yard called Mosquito-b-gon it is around 10 bucks at Wal-Mart (in the garden center bug spray isle). It is a liquid that you attach to the hose, you have to re-apply it every 4 weeks but I have heard good things about it. We plan on buying some this weekend.

Cutter for your yard is wonderful! It attches to the hose and you spray it on- the mosquitos are gone that evening. Very similar to what was previously described. I have also heard about the dryer sheet, but never tried it. Good Luck!

Since most everything has DEET and you cannot use that on babies or kids I went to Babies R Us and bought something called Natrapel Plus. It kinda of has a weird smell but my son has had no bites at all! When you spray it on I have found that you have to rub it in a little. I use Cutter Skinsations for my husband, myself and 15 yr. old. Hope this helps.
