Hi ladies.
I just woke up with a pretty obvious case of pink eye. Could breastmilk help it heal or
is that an urban legend?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

You were all right on the money, ladies! A few treatments of breastmilk - just a drop or two each time! - and my eye was better by the end of the day!
My husband was in awe... "Just another thing that makes women amazing."

I used breastmilk for all sorts of things. Any time she got a scratch I put it on as an anti-infective. When she had a cold and I needed to squirt something into her nose before removing the snot (sorry, gross!), I'd use breastmilk rather than saline. Much more gentle and comfortable for the little ones.

It's true! I have used it with my baby from the beginning (blocked tear duct = constant pink eye). But my doctor also said that regular milk works.

Hi L., I used my friend's b-milk when we all got pinkeye--my husband took the antibiotics, and guess what, his lasted a week!! You can add some honey (antimicrobial) to make it work faster. Obviously, honey for adults and not baby. Good luck!

I have heard that breast milk will help, which makes sense considering it is very immune active, containing live white blood cells. I used to use chamomile teabags on my eyes, which was very soothing also. If you have pus looking drainage, you may want to alert your healthcare provider too.

It's not an urban legend and it might help. When my son's eyes would get goopy, I put a little BM in his eyes and it cleared up right away. Try it, it can't hurt. Just wash yours hands a lot so you don't spread the virus or bacteria.

L.,

Another remedy is cut up potatoes. Leave the skin on it, cut it up and apply for twenty minutes every couple of hours until it is gone.

Hi L.,

Nope, it works!! My son had two cases of conjunctivitis and I just squirted a little milk a couple times a day and in 2-3 days it cleared up. Awesome!! Wish we could bottle it up for when they're a lot older!!:)
