I am looking to book a ticket for my husband. I've checked out flights, and it will cost around $480. I do not think that is high, but I was wondering if anyone knew of any good websites to help me save even more. I am too thrifty.... Thanks,

What can I do next?

I only book directly with the airlines...if something goes wrong, you will be helped out. I have been a loyal United flyer for years but I needed to get to Orlando from Los Angeles to Orlando eight weeks ago. Through United/Continental (hate the merger) the price was $880, through Southwest it was $341. I could not justify the other price and Southwest was actually pretty nice. I would never use a discount travel site unless being bumped fits into your schedule, not having the ability to deal with the airlines directly if fine with you and you REALLY like the bad seats.

I book tickets all the time for my hubby and I will never ever go to the discounters. You go cheap, you get cheap. Cheap is cheap for a reason.

If you have trouble with a discounted ticket, you have no resource at the airport to get your issue resolved, plus the airlines take no pity on the people who do go through the discounters.

Yes, some people use them and it works out for them but typically a discounted ticket holder will be the first to be bumped if needed. Make sure you read all the fine print and fully understand it if you go with cheapees.

You can get good deals directly with your airline of choice through their website. I use Southwest and American. If you book enough in advance, you can get great deals.

Mmy hubby goes to Houston at least once a month and I book those tickets in advance on the web special through Southwest. I fly him down there for less than $120. Same goes for New Orleans.

We fly out next week to San Diego for $350 each both booked on American's site.

Do some searching on the airline website and you might surprise yourself with the opportunities.

Good luck

Ive always used kayak.com which groups all the sites into one location for you to view. They dont book for you they point you to where its posted for that low price. Its free to use. Most of the time you can find prices lower on the actual airline website. Travel agents do charge a fee to book for you and a lot of the time the 'other' sites you can book from do charge you as well.

Try kayak.com - at least it would be grouped together in one place you can see. You can also search by nearby airports, sometimes another airport would have a lower price!

I go to booking buddy to compare and see who has availability and the best prices. Then I go to the airline's websites and am usually able to match the deal. Not always. I've booked thru Travelocity and Expedia and have not had problems with them. But for a similar price, I prefer dealing directly with the airline.
