My son is going to be starting K in the fall and we are trying to decide where to send him. We are currently debating between St. Thecla in Clinton Twp and St. Mary in Mt. Clemens. Anyone have experience or insight? Anything specific I should be looking for?

So What Happened?

Thanks for the responses. I did go to open houses at both schools and was able to get a great feeling for the school environment. While both schools were really nice, we decided on St. Mary's. They have a primary campus for the younger kids and it was so warm and non-intimidating, I think it will be a great fit!

I am a married Father of two children. One is 7 and in first grade, the second is 5 (6 in March) and is in kindergarten. the both have been attending Immanuel Lutheran School for the past 3 years including pre-school. My wife and I could not be more pleased with their success. It is the second largest, K-8 Lutheran school in the country. it is located in Macomb TWP. at the corner of 21 Mile Rd. and Romeo Plank. they are leaps and bounds ahead of their public school friends in the neighborhood. I could not recomend it more. They have a extended care program after school that runs $4.00 per hour, per child. I highly suggest spending some time and visiting the school.

My kids both attend St Mary in Mt Clemens and we have been very happy there. My son is currently in Kindergarten there and we just adore his teacher. He is doing so well and really learning a lot. They offer both a 1/2 day program and an all day program whichever fits your need. It's nice because it's a small school so you get to really know everyone. We are having a open house on Sunday, March 2nd from 1-3pm so you should come out and see for yourself and bring your kids. I hope this info was helpful and if you need any addt'l info please feel free to email me at ____@____.com Take care

For years I went to church at St.Peter Catholic Church which is the church that is affiliated with St.Mary's School. The priest at St.Peter's is Father Mike and he's amazing! I would try attending church at both locations and see which one feels right for your family...you'll have to become a member of whatever church/school you choose, right?
Sorry I don't know more about the actual schools. Good Luck

Went to St. Thecla as a child, and unless my parents move from the area soon, when my son turns 3, he will be going to St. Thecla for preschool. The school has improved a lot since I went there by adding to the buildings, adding a playground, and adding a lot of functions. There have been many improvements to the school overall and even some teachers that are still there from when I went there! I've looked in to Immaculate Conception (where I live) and am choosing St. Thecla over IC. If you want any other input, I would be glad to answer anything you may have.

Hi - great choice in choosing a Catholic school for your children. My three attend St. Thecla, however, I know two families at St. Mary's. I recommend visiting both, discover first what is most important to you in choosing a school. My youngest is in all day k this year, but the older two did 1/2 day. I'd be happy to get you info on the school. Feel free to email me if you'd like. www.dianealbo.myarbonne.com

I personally would HIGHLY recommend St. Thecla. I taught there consistantly as a substitute teacher for a year in 2004. The school has a very positive spirit, the teachers get along well and don't talk bad about kids in the teacher's lounge, the teachers pray together right befpre school starts every morning, they have a great curriculum, and I personally enjoyed the kids in every grade (right up through 8th). I can't say that about any other school.

I would recommend a tour if you haven't already taken one.
