Bike for 4 Yo Boy?

My son is turning four and I'm wondering if its time for a bike with training wheels. He loves 'biking' on his hotwheel, but I'm wondering if it's time to upgrade. I realize that I'll have a harder time following him on foot, but if it's time, it's time! When did you get a two wheeler for your kids?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for the advice! We went ahead and got a 16" bike and presented it to him at his birthday. We chose to go to a bike shop and spend some more, but figured it had to last at least through one other brother. He loves it and loves to go on rides. Happy Summer!

Our boys got a little two wheeler with training wheels for their third birthdays (helmets too of course). One switched over pretty easily to no training wheels at age 6 or 7, but the other is struggling with the change. Every kid is different. Have fun!

I taught my daughter to ride WITHOUT training wheels at age 3.5! I swear if you teach them early they don't fear falling and getting hurt and it's not such a anxiety mess. We spent all summer practicing balcance, just pushing with the bike with feet and then one day we went at it without training wheels and she got it.

So if your wondering about a bike with training wheels GO FOR IT!

Every kid is different in terms of time when they feel comfortable on a bike with training wheels. My son started on his at 2.5 but he has a friend who felt insecure on a bike w/ training wheels and avoided it until he was 5. I think it is a good idea to get one this spring and give him choices.

definately time!! i have a small bike with training wheels that i got at a garage sale. YOu can also look on craigslist etc. Or if you want to buy new, check walmart, target, toys r us etc. Make sure to get a helmet and talk about road safety. Otherwise take him to a park with trails...he will love it!!

I recommend taking him to Toys R Us and let him try out some bikes. We took our 3 1/2 year old last week and decided that he's ready for a bike & training wheels this year. They have a great selection of sizes (some even seemed a bit small) and it looked like they were just as easy to control as the tricycle.
