I was wondering what an electrician would charge an hour?? We want to put in can lights in our living room and remove old lighting. And add a dimmer switch.
It depends on the work involved. If the wiring is already there and just a matter of putting the lighting in, probably not more than $150 for the job. But if he has to do a lot of wiring and such, you'll look at about $50 an hour or so. A friend had new lights put in and the guy charged her $150 plus $60 an hour. But this wwas throughout the house and he had it all done in less than 4 hours. I would request at least 4 quotes for the job first.
WOW!....this is a tough one. A UNION electrician gets roughly $30 per hr, but if you find one that will do a "side job", he might charge less.......my last experience with a NON_UNION guy was awful!....in my older (built before WW2) home he left exposed wires and hazardous connections but still cost me $75 per hr in the long run!.....Go professional for your home and families safety
! I'm sure if you contact IDEW local 134, they will be more than happy to give you the names and contact numbers for contractors in your area.
Our electrician (Oak Electric in Oak Park - love them) charges $74/hour, according to the last invoice I have on file. (that was for pretty involved work - don't know if they would charge less for simpler jobs.)
