I submitted this request last week sorry for the repeat. We are just so unsure of how to go. I have researched a lot of the web about Trex. It appears to have lots of mold problems but I can't find anything newer than 2007. So I don't know if the product got better after that or not. It is quite a bit more costly than pressure treated but I can't tell if it is worth it.
Does anyone have a newer deck? I have mine half torn up and need to purchase the new decking but I can't decide to go composite or pressure treated. Any suggestions?
We have Trex and it was here when we bought the house in Nov 2005. I think it was installed in Summer 2004. Anyway, we haven't had any issues at all with it. No mold anywhere. The kids don't get splinters, the screws don't pop from the wood bending. We just powerwash it once a year and love it.
We are in the same boat! Our old deck is torn out, and we have shopped around for a composite. We heard about the mold too, so we're hoping for the best. Our biggest problem was not the cost of the material, but the labor quotes were RIDICULOUS (like 9,000 and up). So, we've ordered Timber Tech since my mom works for a lumber co. and got us a good deal, and my hubby is going to install it himself to save on labor! Timber Tech and ChoiceDek (Lowes) are rated as well as Trex (I used Consumer Reports), so we went by which we liked the look of, and the cost. I'm excited about not having to stain, and about being able to walk on it in bare feet! Good luck!
