I'm not sure how far you are willing to go, but I take my son to a home daycare in Palatine that is great. I know in the summer she has more openings because some of the parents are teachers and have summers off. She has no more than 12 kids at a time, and has one assistant who is great. She is located fairly close to the Palatine Road exit off of Rt. 53. Good luck! If you want more information, send me a personal message.

Good idea to have your headline be your request (Looking for Home-Based Daycare in Des Plaines). As your library if they know of any reputable. Also Oakton Community College's Daycare may know of referral sources for home daycares.
