Smile's Diapers

Has anyone tried the Smile's brand diapers from Sam's Club? I was recently shopping there and noticed that it's a $15 difference between the box of Smiles and the box of Pampers Cruisers. I've been a Cruisers fan for the past 3 1/2 years and ended up going with them but I'm wondering if the Smiles are adequate substitutes. I've got 2 in diapers right now and just thought it might be more economical to try a cheaper product ~ I just didn't want to end up with 160+ diapers that I hate.

Hi Brandy. I have tried them and I didn't like them. My son was constantly wanting them off - he didn't seem to care for them at all. He may be picky too. I have a friend who's used the Smile's for awhile and her daughter seems to have no problem with them. They are a bargain.

Hello, I used Smiles for my kids. I would recommend them.I thought they were just fine and easier on the budget for sure.

I've used Pampers Premium diapers exclusively since my 5yo was born, and now use them on my 2 and 1 yo boys. When Maggie was born I tried a handful of other brands (Huggies, Luvs, store-brand generic) and was unhappy with them, so I have since been loyal to PP.

HOWEVER, that being said, my BIL had two in diapers at the same time for a couple of years and DID use SMILES. He was quite happy with them.

Hope this helps!

Hi Brandy!

I have not tried the Smiles brand, but BJ's has a Berkely and Jensen brand which is their generic brand, and they are 8-18 dollars cheaper than the brand names. I used to be a Huggies Supreme only person, but now I won't even look at the brand name stuff.

They might be worth a try, even if you don't like them, you are still losing less than you would trying one of the name brands.

Also, just a suggestion, check to see if Sam's has any coupons at the front desk. Sometimes BJ's does.

Good luck!

The diaper's didn't work well for us. If you try and they don't work you can return them. I did. I also tried the cheap Target and Giant brands. They also didn't work. I returned those too.

I too, swear by Pampers. What I did was sign up my mom and friends on the Pampers site so I got tons of coupons!!! This really helped.

I have not tried the Smile's brand of diapers, but if your near a Walmart Store, (not Sam's) get the White Cloud brand of diapers. We recently had to go with a name brand of diapers because they were out of WC, and we were real suprised at the difference between the two. WC is cheaper than real brands, and in my opinion, is alot better. Hope this helps!

Brandy,
I also have had 3 kids in less than 4 years. They are 5,4 and almost 2 now. I don't know about the Smiles but I did Huggies for my first 2 and then Luvs changed their product and I use it with my third, a girl. We have had no leaks and she likes them AND they are a lot cheaper than Huggies or Pampers. The only reason I did not use Luvs with my oldest ones is that they used to have a plastic coating rather than a cottony feel one like Pampers or Huggies, and I read that could lower sperm count in the boys(still not sure the long term effect on that one) but now they are cotton like.
Hope that was helpful.

Hi, We always used the Walmart brand and did fine with them. I would bet that there is a customer service number on the packaging and they would probably refund your money or offer some sort of compensation if you saved your reciept. Good luck

I haven't tried them, but I think that you can get small packs at Walmart so you aren't stuck with a ton just to try them. My boys are out of diapers, at this point. I was a papers fan myself. What are the pampers from sam's costing now? They were about $24 when we were getting them there. Good luck.

I also use the White Cloud brand from Walmart. I had used them and then used Huggies and Luvs and actually switched back to the White Cloud because I liked them better. They have a nice stretchy waistband and I have never had any leaks. You can get smaller packages and also a bigger box (i believe it is about 15 dollars for the bigger box). Hope this helps.

You could always get them and if they don't work out sell them on ebay.

I know what you mean about having all those diapers sitting around if they do not work out.

I have 2 in diapers now, we are trying to potty train one. I have pretty much always had 2 in diapers though. I have 5 kids, 7 and under.

Where are you at?? It says you are close to Dover??

I am a faithful cruisers user, so its hard to change. And now they are doing the pampers points, I don't wanna not get those. LOL

I haven't tried the Sam's club version but the B&J version from BJ's is probably the same. I have twins and anything amount of money I can get saved is worth it....but after using Pampers or Huggies I did find that these "generic" were very generic and that they leaked which neither Pampers or Huggies did. The hassle of dealing with leaking and a less fitting diaper outweighed the cost to me. Also, I know someone who bought a box - tried a couple - hated them and returned them back to BJ's without a problem. Good luck !

I have never tried them, I would LOVE to hear the answer to this as well.

Congrats on being the mother of 3 under 4. I thought I had it rough being the mother of 2 under 2. I haven't personally used the Smile's brand, but one of the baby magazines that I subscribe to had readers opinions stating that they were just as good and much less expensive.

As an FYI, I use regular diapers during the day and Huggie's Overnights at night so that I can use whatever brand is on sale or cheapest at the grocery store/Wal Mart and the put on an Overnight for bedtime with no worries about bed wetting. I have used Price Chopper brand, Hannaford brand, Wal Mart brand and KMart brand and haven't had any complaints about them (they aren't as soft as Huggies or Pampers, but much cheaper, especially for my little one who goes through 10 a day!).

Please let me know if you use the Smiles and what you think about them.

This may sound crazy....but go ahead and give them a try by doing this: put the Smiles diapers on your little ones. If you find that they don't fit the kids right, fasten a Cruisers around the Smiles. The top diaper won't get wet and you won't need to discard it. If the new diapers aren't very absorbent and they leak, put the kids in the absorbent cloth swim diapers (not the disposables) on top of the Smiles and wash the swim diaper as needed. I've done it and it's a pain sometimes, but it's always worth it to try to find something cheaper. Good luck!

Yes, I have and to be honest they did not work for me. You could smell the pee and after about an hour or so it was time to change it again. I really loved the huggie brand diapers, but now I use the Target brand and I love them and they are alot cheaper. Hope that helps, but all babies are differnet. My boys pee alot. Good luck. I know how having 2 in diapers were, so any amout of savings helps.

Hi Brandy,
I'm also a mom of 3 recently under 4. They are now 4, almost 3 and 8 months.

I am a cloth diapering mom but have used disposables on many occasions and have never used the name brands (I've tried samples of them), always the discount ones. I wouldn't see an issue with the Smile's brand ones, and as many have said you can return them if you're not happy.

One thing I have found regardless of what brand I have used is that performance has more to do with how the diaper is put on than the quality of the diaper itself. Except for a very few, all diapers now have an elastic piece just inside the leg. Once the diaper is securely fastened, it's always best to take your finger and run it along the inside of the diaper from the back to the front at the leg and gently expand the elastic as you do that with a finger and "activate" the no leak barrier. LOL. Sounds funny to say, but it always seems to work for me with any brand of disposables, and I have tried just about ALL of them. Since I don't have a Sam's club membership I can't try the Smile's though.

Also, I have found being a cloth diapering mom I think I tend to change diapers on my little ones a lot quicker than most even when using disposables, so I'm sure that in some cases it has made a big difference in the smell factor that some have talked about.

Give them a shot, it couldn't hurt. And I too HIGHLY recommend the White Cloud brand at Wal-Mart. Even the ones in the yellow packaging, I forget what they're called. Very inexpensive and worked great for us.

Good Luck!

Hi Brandy,
I just started using the Smiles brand about 2 weeks ago and I really like them. I am in the size 3s right now--I used Pampers for size 1-2 but like you, decided to try something a little cheaper. They haven't leaked yet and really I see no difference. Definitely recommend the change!! I live in McKees Rocks too--my baby is 4 mos. How old are yours? 3 under the age of 4!! Yipes!!! You are a tough woman!!!

Brandy,

I do not know about the Smile's Brand, however I did try the Costco brand of Kirkland diapers for the same reason, they were a lot cheaper. I hated them immediately. My one year old used maybe three of them and they leaked all over the place. I brought them back to Costco and they gave me a full refund on the entire box. I went back to the Cruisers myself.
