Shaded Bermuda- Lots of weeds or no grass!

This year was my first at my new home. It was previously professionally landscaped and the most beautiful place to hang out in early spring. Since then my grass in back (and front yard though not nearly as bad) has one or more of the following
- Abundance of weeds, especially clover though lots of others I cannot name
- Different times of grass growing in areas
- Bald patches (which I have recently reseeded with Bermuda)

I've taken this on a a project which I've tried to overcome myself. So far I've dethatched my lawn using a special rake, fertilized, used spray weed killer (on weeds), pulled out a ton of crab grass manually, and still the annoying weeds are taking over. I know that the lack of shade in some areas is causing the problem but weeds still exist in the sunny areas. I've had my gardeners adjust the mowing height to allow the Bermuda to grow in more (which is had, but it's been several months and still having lots of issues) I plan on cutting my trees back (when is the best time?) and I do not mind highering a chemical company (if you can recommend one at a great price!) I am really hoping (Dreaming) on having a gorgeous backyard that will last the entire warm season. Your help and advise is great appreciated. Also, I'd like to avoid sodding if possible.

Thanks in advance!

Diana,

My husband says the best time to treat the weeds is before they come out in the spring with a "pre-emerge" fertilizer product. Also, my neighbors had good luck with Truegreen Chemlawn company...they came out and sprayed and the weeds were gone in a few weeks. My husband swears that some weeds spread terribly when you cut the grass because it flings them everywhere and they reseed.

As far as cutting the trees back...do that in the winter sometime after they have lost their leaves and before they bud out in the spring. Trees grow a lot over the winter. Then when they bud out in the spring you won't miss the branches and the tree will look great. Good luck!!

We've used Lawn Tech for years and always have the nicest yard in the neighborhood. Their prices are reasonable and they will come out for additional treatments at no charge for as long as your problem persists.

Good luck!
