My son is turning 5 in June. I am thinking about holding him back for a year by doing private K first.
Both of my kids have attended the Next Generation Children’s Centers (one in Natick and another in Sudbury). I’m not sure if they have one close enough to you, but people speak very highly of the private K program that they offer. We have had very positive experiences there.
Just something to think about - if his current teachers think that he’s ready for K, maybe he is. Just remember that holding him back not only impacts him in kindergarten, but for the rest of his academic career. Maybe that will be great for him; as a HS teacher I often think it’s better for boys to be near the oldest in their grade rather than the youngest. Perhaps you do private K with the option of simply enrolling him in first grade the following year when you see how he’s matured over the 12 months?
