Does anybody know of a preschool with a no nuts policy? My 2 year old is severly allergic to peanuts and nuts. I was hoping to be able to send him to preschool but I am nervous about sending him to a school where he could possibly be exposed. I know this is a touchy subject for some, as nobody wants to be told what they can and can't feed their kids. But with the rates of allergies increasing and more and more kids having this allergy, I was hoping maybe somebody knew of at least one place?
Thanks.
Not sure what area you are looking in, but the prescool all of my kids have gone too is Sonshine Enrichment Center in Highland. The don't neccesarily have a no nuts policy, but they are very careful about allergies. They have the children's allergies posted in the kitchen area for a double reminder. I am severely allergic to peanuts, and we didn't know about the kids. My ped. advised us to wait until the kids were older to expose them to nuts, so we did. The preschool treated it as an allergy and were very careful.
I think most schools will make them selves nut free or what ever you need if the problem arises. We received notes sent home with an allergy list of what was not aloud in school. They also sent little reminders threw out the year. I also know they always checked the treat bags during holiday time so that no one mistakenly sent something that could get into the hands of a child. I am a daisy GS troop leader and we are very strict on our policies in the troop. I really think as long as you inform the people around you it will be fine, now elementary school, thats a whole new world :) Good luck.
