Opening a DVD case

DD is having a melt down, the DVD we borrowed from the library was never "unlocked" and i'm not sure exactly if there is anything i can do at home, I don't think i'ts magnetic but some sort of a slide dealy, any chance at all that anyone knows what i am talking about before i go at it with a butter knife.

Frankly, even though it was the fault of the library for not unlocking it, will they charge you if you damage the case?

Let DD have her meltdown… just put her in a different room… just tell her it is broken… you don’t have to give in to her.

Leave it be, if you damage the case in any way you will have to pay for it. Use the opportunity to teach her that sometimes life doesn’t go our way, and we have to accept it. Give in and you’ll set her up for unrealistic expectations. It really isn’t the end of the world ツ

Take it back to the library and they’ll unlock it for you. Don’t attempt it yourself or you’ll likely damage it and then they’ll fine you for it.

You do know that it’s all right for kids to cry, right? That this isn’t an actual emergency? She’s just going to have to wait and cope with being disappointed. It’s a great chance for her to learn patience and that immediate gratification isn’t always possible or a reality.

Sorry I wouldn’t mess with it. Return to the library and ask them to undo it and extend the due date. She will live, and sometimes life is cruel and that which is expected and easily in reach is still not available. Parents always want to fix it, sometimes we shouldn’t.

I’m not sure why this constitutes an emergency. This is a great opportunity to teach your daughter that sometimes, despite our best efforts and intentions, things don’t go the way we want. Tell her you will bring it back to the library WHEN YOU CAN and have them open it. Find a diversion for tonight.

You’ll have to take it back and have them unlock it. Don’t go at it with a butter knife unless you want to pay damages.

I agree. Tell her that she needs to calm down and that you will take it back and get it fixed when you can, but right now you can’t play the DVD. Help her to move on to something else. If you go at it with a butter knife, you may damage the DVD and then what? You still won’t have a movie to play.

To her I’m sure it was an emergency  I’m glad you were able to find an alternative for the night.

Call the library before you ruin it and own it.

I am a librarian and I implore you to STOP! Take it back to the library and let them open it. You will damage the case and they will charge you for it.

lol, Emergency over, I thought perhaps it was an easy fix. We snuggled with a book instead and will take it back on our way to swim class tomorrow. It did happen to be an AMerican girl doll movie, very very important to her at this age.

changing the title now so no one else things it was a real actual life or death situation. thanks for your replies.
