Next steps....DS was diagnosed with Aspergers

My DS went to the Pediatric Neurologist on Monday 5/18/09 and was diagnosed with Aspergers. The Dr. stated that DS needs Occupational, speech, and social skills therapy. I called the insurance company and nothing is covered since he is considered highly functioning. I am working on this issue right now, but realize that we may have to pay out of pocket. He is in the PPCD program, but will not be in a program during the summer. Any advice on where he can get these services during the summer? Dr referred me to Our Children's House at Baylor. Anyone utilized their services? How many times a week should I expect he would need each therapy? I realize every kid is different. I appreciate any information that you can provide my way! I just want to make sure I do what is best for my DS.

Hi Renee,

I am a speech-language pathologist, with almost 20 years of experience working with children whom have been identified on the autism spectrum. I have a private practice, and was the team leader and speech-language pathologist in the PPCD program. I can be reached at 972-839-0312. I return all calls within 24 hours.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sheryl

I wonder if the local ECI service provider in your area would have any ideas or referrals for you. I know that they serve up to 3yo with various therapies, but surely they have referrals for those who age out of their programs. Just a thought. Not sure where you live, but here is a website for Denton County's provider: http://www.readystart.org/
What a lucky child you have--to have a mother so willing to meet his needs!! Best wishes.
