Magic butt cream is equal parts
-Desitin (the thick original- not the creamy)
-Maylox (or store brand, mint flavor is more 'cooling' on baby's bottom)
-Lotramin AF (you have to make sure it is the anti fungal)
it may be kind of lumpy at first and may separate in between uses- but this stuff is the BEST. If your friend has good Rx coverage, her doc can call it in and the the pharmacy can make it for her- they use all the same ingred, except they use nystantin instead of the lotramin
Butt Paste is NOT the same thing- it may work for some, but it did NOT work for us- it made things WORSE for both of my boys.
Wow!! Lots of responses! Our son had rotovirus and he had the worst diaper rash the only thing that worked for us was the Arbonne diaper rash cream mixed with Gold Bond baby powder with cornstarch. I would wrap him in a cloth diaper and than put a disposable diaper around it. It took about 2 days but cleared up in no time. By the way, I had never used the Arbonne diaper rash cream before that and now it's all I use!!
There's a cream you can buy called Boudreaux's butt paste, it's at Wal*Mart and it works really well but it's super thick so if the baby is young you may want to stick to something easier to apply/remove such as Desitin. The other secret trick my pediatrician gave me is to buy non-flavored, plain Maalox or generic liquid antacid and put it in a spray bottle and spray the baby's diapers. You let them dry then use them on the baby. The antacid neutralizes acid in the baby's #1 & #2 and helps them heal quicker.
Hello,
When my daughter used to get diaper rash, nothing seemed to help. My mother bought something called BAG BALM (comes in a square green tin) from a pet store. It is used for cow utters rash! LOL It worked like a miracle! It got rid of the rash OVERNIGHT! I highly recommend this stuff! Good luck!
Bourdeaux"s Butt Paste is wonderful! It is also WAY easier to remove than Desatin, Balmex, or Aveeno. Also lots of naked time and soaking in the tub. I swear the air is the best thing for bad diaper rash.
From what I understand the mixture consists of a prescribed creme and non prescribed creme. So that won't help. But my daughter reacted all the wipes I tried except for Pampers sensitive wipes. I couldn't even use the no name brand equivilent to it.
Try these:
1. Use wash clothes and warm water
2. Let air get to the area as much as possible
3. Bag Balm, original A&D ointment, etc
I hope I gave you some ideas to pass on to your friend.

Ask the pharmacist for something called Calmoseptine. It's over the counter but the pharmacist has it. The nurses in the NICU gave it to our son when he had horrible rash. We still use it since he's 1 1/2. It works great. You don't have to mix anything.
I believe it is diaper rash ointment, athletes foot cream and zinc oxide. The athlete's foot cream works great because it kills the bacteria. I hope this works for her. Also, tell her that once the rash is cleared up to coat the baby's butt with vaseline each time she changes the baby. This will serve as a waterproof base and resist any further rashes. Good luck! :)
I've used Boudreaux's Butt Cream, which you can buy at Target and other stores. I guess it was originally developed by a pharmacist, and then it was so popular that it went in to major production. Works great for diaper rash, and even has a nice scent. Sorry I don't know how to make it at home! Good luck!
If the baby's on antibiotics, it's probably a yeast infection. I remember my pediatrician ordering something that was a combination of like Desitin and Monistat. She could try putting both on, or even some hydrocortisone cream with Desitin or Balmex.

if its more of a severe rash that is in the diaper area it might be a fungal yeast inf. they will give you a prescription. but for the time being you can just use a over the counter monastat cream the same that you would use on yourself, usually about the second day you should notice it getting better, than u might not need the doc. Ive also herd to put a plain yogurt on the area and it will counter act the yeast rash.
When my kids were little, the dr. told us to use a mixture of desitin, lotrimin (atheletes foot), and hydrocortisone cream. We just kept a tube of each with the diapers, squirted somoe of each in the palm of our hand, mixed it, applied, and wiped the palm of our hand on the new diaper. It worked like a charm. After a while, we could tell when to use it and when to use just the desitin.
Calmoseptine-it's behind the counter at any pharmacy you just have to ask for it. It's a little pricey but it's amazing how quickly it works. A little bit goes a long way too. It's not prescription they just keep it behind the counter. Best of luck
I have been doing daycare for 11 years and I also have 3 children of my own ages 13, 8, and 1. This is what I have always used and truly believe in. I have never thought desitin, balmex or any of those butt creams have worked it always seems to make it worse. I get it at walmart in the animal section like by the dog shampoos and things, its called Bag Balm its costs $7.43 in a green square can, made by vermonts original since 1899 it says on the can. Its actually used for cows but it works wonders!!! Just try it you can also use it for chapped lips, hands, skin, rashes, dry feet, not to be gross but mens jock itch. We swear by it and I have many daycare parents who now use it. But if it has turned into yeast infection like from being on an oral antibotic it may not work, it may be too late and will need nystatin which is only prescribed by a physician. My own children always got a yeast infection after being on an oral antibiotic so I would just start using the bag balm right away to prevent them from getting it and it worked everytime so good luck to you. You will have to let me know if it works.
if it the bright red rash kinda of raw like it yeast base and u put the same stuff on it u would put in side of your self for a yeast infection if it blotchie i use palmer but butter or bag balm is great even if there no rash keep that bottom dry a pamper free as much as possible even if it mean change sheet in the middle of the night
