low cost health insurance

I was wondering if anyone knew of a company that offered low cost health insurance? I work full time but after daycare can not afford to purchase thru my job.His fathers job doesn't offer insurance to employees. I do not qualify for state assistance and really don't want it. I have looked at the major companys like blue cross but to afford the monthly premiums, the deductibles are $1000 to $5000. My son is 2 and does go to the doctor often due to frequent ear infections, but not enough to justify a $5000 deductible. Any ideas are appreciated!

I had the same problem and finally went to Troxell I believe the place is called, it's in the Springfield phone book and they set me up with the Health Alliance HMO 90 plan. I pay 215 a month, co-pay for doctor visits is 10 bucks. Prescriptions are $7. I pay 10%, they pay 90 for labs and what not. I'm not real up to date on all of it but you can check out healthalliance.org it's been really great and affordable so far. And a big plus...I got maternity coverage immediately!

I don't know about where you are but here we have Kid Care. It is a state program based on income that is not welfare or public aid. It was basicly designed for families like yours that make to much for public aid and not enough to self insure. You might check in your state website for directions and info on a similar program. And like the previous answer, you might try a private local insurance group, check with your auto insurance provider, they often offer homeowners and health insurance too, and at a discounted rate for multiple policies. And the company Troxell listed below is a great one!

Hi,
Not sure about your State, but the State has approved for all children to be given health care free of charge. I live in Illinois, so I'm not sure. Try getting some insurance quotes on the net. Just type in low cost life insurance or whatever kind of insurance you're looking for

If you live in the peoria area there's a place called family quick care that has very inexpensive office visits-the visits are for minor issues like sinus infections etc.

You may want to double check about when the deductable is required at Blue Cross. I have a $1000 deductable through my health insurance which I wasn't happy about but I found out it doesn't apply to office visits. The only time it applies is for hospital stays or procedures at the hospital. For office visits, I only pay the co-pay.

Hi, I have learned alot about health insurance over the years as I renew our group contract at work every year. The deductible does not matter that much as long as there is dr visit copay and prescription coverage and what they cover on labs and such.

If this does not make sense to you or you want more help just let me know I would be glad to help!!

Depending on what state you live in, there should be a program that will give your kids free or reduced cost insurance coverage. In Illinois it's called All Kids. I think that even if you pay for your own insurance and make too much, they may give you a monthly rebate on what you pay. I'm not sure if they still do thay part, but a few years ago they did. Just type in "uninsured kids in all state" in your search bar and you should be able to find something for your state. Good luck!

Well my family is about to start using Assurant. You can choose different deductibles and get the copay option.. It seemed really affordable, and the people to talk to about the plans were really helpful. Hope this helps...

Do you live in Illinois? If so check out the KidCare program. It offers something for every income. It should help yhou with your child, if not for you. Insurance is tricky business because it is so expensive. Here is the website for the kid care: http://www.allkidscovered.com/
Good luck, and hang in there!!

I found GHP to have the best rates and coverage.

fill out the forms here.

The portion you pay of insurance premiums are only 5% of your gross monthly income. It helps with premium assistance if you can't afford to pay your portion of the premium every month or our employer wants to offer insurance but can't afford the premiums.

Hi Christine, Have you checked into SoonerCare? You can print out an application online, and then mail it in to your DHS dept. My kids are on it, and it's a blessing. My son fell off the slide at school and broke his collar bone, and we didn't have to pay a thing. Check into it. It couldn't hurt. Sylvia

in the state of illinois there is a program that has insurance for the reasons you just explained. there are different levals that you would qualify for. look up allkids.gov if you are in the state of illinois. good luck

There is an insurance co. in Edmond that offers low cost health insurance, however it is not a major medical plan. This means if you were to be hospitalized it would only cover a certain amount of the hospital stay. However if you're just needing to take you and your son to the doctor and get perscriptions it would be great for that. The company is Great Cornerstone Life and Health Insurance their phone is 285-0838. Ask to speak to Brent or Maggie and let them know Dorothy Mason referred you. There are three options to choose from for an adult and one dependent it ranges from 110, 147 or 184 per month.

Christine--My husband works for United American Insurance. He sells a lot of ranges of policies. I'm sure that he has one that you could afford. A really nice thing about this insurance is that you don't have to stay in any one network-- you can go wherever you like. Send me a private message if you would like me to give you his phone number, or I can give him yours. If nothing else, he can give you a ballpark idea of what else is out there.

Yes, try United American Insurance Company. United American Insurance is a subsidiary of Torchmark Corporation, a publicly traded (NYSE:TMK) insurance company, which specializes in life and health insurance producats for middle-income Americans.

United American offers:

*Guaranteed Renewability. Meaning that they cannot cancel or refuse to renew your policy as llong as your premiums are paid on time.

*Flexible Benefits. Meaning they provide protection for individuals and families or serve as a supplement to existing coverage. You are able to choose the benefits and amounts of coverage which are right for you. These can be adjusted as your life needs change.

*Freeddom of Choice. United Amercian policy holders are free to visit any doctor or hospital they wish. And you are not restricted to a network or list of providers like you are with HMO or PPO.

*Portability. As UA's plans are individually written, their policies go where you do. Though you may move or change jobs, UA's benefits remain the same.

And every decision or change made to the policy has to be what is best for the customer, the agent, AND for the shareholder. If it only benefits one or two..it won't be done at all. It must benefit all or change don't occur.

I think that blue cross blue shield is one of the more overpriced and expensive heath insurance if you dont get it from your insurance. As far as the deductives, I think the deductables are only based on if you go to the emergency room. If it is the doctor visit, you might just need to pay for the co-pay. I was just wondering since you are getting married, would your future husband have insurance at work and he could ad you to it? It would be a lot cheaper, because the employer usually covers half of the cost of what you would pay of insurance. I have someone that i know that sells more affortable heath insurance, maybe he can give you a quote. I know it would be cheaper.

I don't know where you work or what type of company it is. But Oklahoma has come out with a program for small business employers that covers most of an employees healthcare. The program is called O-Epic and you can find it on the web. I have a home based childcare business and was able to offer my employee Blue Cross and Blue Shield Insurance. I pay a small portion( around 50.00), she pays a small portion( around 24.00) and the O-Epic program picks up the rest. The qualifications for the employer are listed on the web. The paperwork to get started is minimal. Most employers are not yet aware that the program exists.
