Looking for Vaccine-Friendly Pediatricians in Austin

I am a mom that has chosen to use an alternative vaccine schedule. As a nurse, I just can't knowingly inject all those toxins and preservatives into my baby all at once. I want to spread them out over a longer period of time and only give one or two at a time. I'd like to be able to pick and choose with my doctor which ones we want to do. I've done ALOT of research and this is what I feel is best for us. I don't necessarily want to go the all-or-nothing route, and the CDC recommended schedule is ridiculous. Unfortunately, my doc disagrees with my views and isn't willing to work with me on this. Even after my daugher had a reaction to her first DTaP shot.

SO... I need to find some vaccine-friendly doctors in the Austin area. Any suggestions??

So far I've heard only good things about Drs. Cox and Trester at Central Family Practice
HTH

Kelly, mama to
Catherine, 4yrs
Samuel, 14mos

Check out Dr. Patil, at Seton Hospital Office Clinics off of 1826. 288-9669 Good Luck!

We really like Pamela Garcia, she is with Jefferson Street Family Practice. She has been our general practioner and pediatric doctor for six years, we are a family of five. She has always been very respectful of our own schedule of vaccinations, no judgement but also very helpful. They are on Medical Parkway 512-459-4147. Best of luck!!

We choose not to do any vaccinations. We went to Dr. Hudson first ( Bee Caves Pediatrics). He was good, and accepting of our vaccine choice, but very popular and it was difficult to see him. We ended up switching to Dr. Cox, who was a little more questioning and wanting us to get more info and research further on vaccines, but in the end he was ok with our decision. Dr. Cox is also very supportive of breastfeeding, attachment parenting, and alternative medicines.

Bee Caves Pediatrics, particularly Dr. Hudson there. He is respectful of parents choices around vaccines. We live in central austin, but feel it is well worth the drive. I highly recommend them. (512) 328-7666

I also like they they are large enough to be able to do blood tests in the office while you wait. That keeps them from over-prescribing antibiotics while waiting for test results to come in.

I love Dr. Hudson at Bee Caves Ped. If he's taking patients I'd recommend him for sure. We've been going to him for 5 years and he has totally respected our choice to only give our son the DPT shot, and not until he turned 2. My daughter turns 2 in june and we haven't given her any at all yet and he never pesters us or makes us feel inferior for making those choices.

We LOVE Dr. Elena Ruiz at Bee Cave Pediatrics. We decided not to vaccinate our son btwn the ages of 12-18 mos (based on some research we'd done)....... and she was totally respectful of letting us wait & then "catch up" when we were ready. Our son is now 3 & we are still really happy at BCP.

Hi Allison,

My three children 5,3 and 1 year old all had an alternative vaccine schedule. I, too, agree completely with you that children do need their vaccinations, but one size does not fit all if you catch my drift. I live in North Austin and my children go to Treehouse Pediatrics. The docs and nurses there have always been very understanding when I requested to have their vaccines scheduled differently. I am shocked that your current pediatrician is not working with you! Shame on him/her! Call Treehouse Ped. 255-8868 and see if they can recommend a doc for you in South Austin. It's good to know another mom is as concerned as I am about vaccinating their child. Hope this helps! Take Care, Les

We go to Pediatric Associates near Central Market (central) and they have no problem with the alternate schedule we provided. We learned about it from Dr. Sears - not sure if that is the one you are using.

Dr. Suffredini at Austin Diagnostic Clinic on Far West is flexible with vaccines. My 18 month old son is in the process of splitting the MMR-V, one shot at a time, once a month. It may a bit of a drive for you but will be worth it. Good luck!

.

Our pediatrician is very open to the pick and choose method and alternative schedule. She's at Northwest Pediatrics and Adolescents, Dr. White. The others at that practice are probably also fine, but she's the one I've dealt with.

We have a 9, 7yr and 9month old. We stopped the vaccines after our 7yr old @ 3. We aren't giving our 9month old any yet. We believe our 7yrold has high functioning autisim from the shots. We have done some research and are not going with vaccines for now. Our doctor is Will Getman @ ARC on Farwest 346.6611. I don't know if I would call him a vaccine -friendly pediatrician, but he does understand.
We have several friends that are choosing not to get vaccines. There is a lot of money to be made in this industry.
Not sure if this helps. WE live in Circle C.

Try any of the doctors at Southwest Pediatrics. I go to Dr. Rimer and expressed concern over giving our son the MMR shot at his twelve month checkup. They let us decide which shots he will get and when with no judgements.

I also have a 4 month old baby girl and live in South Austin. So far we have loved Dr Jolet at Southwest Pediatric Associates which is at Seton SW. She is very accepting of our choices and seems well informed with with the current controversies. I also like that she will spend as much time as you need at each visit to anwser any and all questions you have. Good luck!

Yes! Bee Caves Pediatrics off of S. 360, specifically Dr Hudson, but the whole practice in general is friendly to an alternate vaccination schedule (I would ask for Dr Hudson or Dr Ruiz if possible). They are also a little slower to throw antibiotics at every little runny nose which I love as well.

Hope this helps!

Try my MD- Susan King on Angus Road off 183 in North Austin/Arboretum area. Her phone number is 512-346-7966

I like her a lot. She is very bright and an excellent diagnostician, the two things I look for first in an MD. I haven't done this, as my kids are older, but I do like the way she works with me and supports me with my different ideas! Good luck!
(She also has two very little kids)

Hi Allison.

Im a nurse too. Dr Paige Suffridini has been terrific in allowing us to adjust the vac plan to work best with my kids. She uses themerisol free vacs and she is always willing to listen to my concerns.

She is currently at Far West and will be moving to NAMC when the new building is finished. From Mopac it is easy to get to from both north and south. If you need south check out Dr Marrop as I hear good things about her as well. Mary
