Hi there. I would like to start bike riding again and need an infant seat. I’ve read reviews that were in support of front mounted instead of rear mounted. I’ve also read reviews in favor of rear mounted instead of front mounted. My local bike shop, in Keller, TX only sell the Topeak, rear mounted seat and said that frount mounted seats were unsafe. Suggestions based on real life experience would be great. I’d be riding on sidewalks and in parks. No mountain biking. I have a Trek woman’s bike and my little man is 1 year old. Thanks, Adrianne.
I’d have to agree with them. We used the rear-mounted. My feeling is this that
a) the front mounted don’t offer the needed back and head support that a rear-mount does.
b) if you crash, your child is going to take the first impact rather than you.
When my daughter was younger (2) we had the front mounted seat and loved it. She got to see everything around us. We took side streets and walking/riding trails (no mountain bike riding for us either! Too flat around here, huh?). She did grow out if it pretty fast, though. I really do recommend at least giving it a try.
