I know there are a couple of "songs" or "sayings" out there to teach how to tie a shoe....please share. I am clueless. Right now I am making a bunny ear and hopping around a tree and it makes NO sense....HA

Not sure about a song but bet if you Google it you will find one. I'd go to the library or local book store, I know there are some cute picture books out there on this topic. There is also a cute big wooden shoe that Melissa and Doug Co , ( great wooden toy makers) product that is specifically designed for teaching this. It is only about $12. Hope this helps.

The way I was taught to tie shoes was to just make the first knot, then to make 2 loops and tie those in a knot. (the same knot as the initial one, just with loops...) It's not the traditional way, but it worked for my little fingers before I had any dexterity. It only took me one sitting to figure it out, and I learned the "right" way to tie my shoes on my own after a while.

Here is an alternative way to tie shoe laces that my oldest caught on to much easier than the traditional way. He is nearly 10 now and still ties his shoe laces this way.

My middle child couldn't get the bunny concept so we skipped that one. I made two loops and wrapped one around, under and pulled through. That worked for him. We always double tied for him so he had extra practice, each time he put on his shoes. He's now 12 and added a second "around" to keep it tight.

I don't remember any songs to share but I know that if you take a black pair of shoe laces and white pair of shoe laces, cut them in half, and then tie a black half with a white half before lacing up your shoe, the black and white lace on each shoe will give your child a better visual image of what's going on when you are tying your shoe.

Our daughter was taught by a little boy at daycare.. . She seemed to be able to understand his directions better than mine..

Does she have a little friend her age who could teach her?

I think it would be less confusing to leave all of the theatrics out of the shoe tying process.
Sit your child on your lap and just go over it and over it until they figure it out.... probably will take several sessions. Finger dexterity is important... make sure the child knows how to use scissors and can color in the lines.... that's when it becomes possible to tie shoes in most cases.
My sons both tied at age 4 (just double checked their baby books). Velcro shoes came out when they were about 5 or 6... so they learned just in time! :)

We also taught the two loops way to our son. One thing that was expressed to us was if the child doesn't have a full grasp of what the "over" "under" "around" "through" etc. concepts are, then they will have more trouble tying shoes until they do understand. Not saying this is the issue for you, just another idea.
