How to sell gold coins, Eastern NC

I believed all the hype last year that buying gold was a great investment. Now that we need to sell the coins to pay off some debt, they aren't "easy to sell", and we can't get what gold is supposedly worth at the moment. I called a pawn shop that advertised that they bought gold coins and they said "well how much are you looking to get for them?" I said we wanted to get what they were worth... He said we'd have to find some refiner who melts them down that day to get anywhere near that. Ugh! What a waste! Anyone know how to sell them or where? I've been looking online, and there are all kinds of outfits that want you to send them in, and supposedly they will will send a check right out, but I sure don't trust that.

I don't know if this helps but I trust one of the guys at Reeds. I wish I knew his name. He is maybe in his 40's and has grey hair. He knows of jewelers in Wilmington who actually make the settings for jewels bought in Afghanistan.

His associates number is 3647 and the phone number for Reed's is 353-7333
