How to get dog stains out of carpeting

A friend told me about this stuff
Natures Miracle avail at Pet Smart... I swear by the stuff.

I have a recipie that will probably get the stains and odor out of your carpet. I have used it many times with great success. Use a large bucket to hold 1 or 2 gallons. Put 1/4 Cup of baking soda, 1/2 Cup white vinegar, and 1 Cup amonia - I like to use lemon scented in the bucket and mix well. It will foam up alot. Then add 1 gallon of hot/really warm water and mix again. Use this formula in a steam cleaner. Be generous with it on stains and then vaccuum water up. The formula may be doubled. You will find this will deodorize really well but you also may want the kids out and open windows while cleaning. My neighbors have 3 small dogs that tend to have accidents and they were totally amazed at how well it worked. This formula is also much cheaper to use (especially if you shop at the dollar store like I do)to clean carpets, walls, floors, etc. If you have any trouble with it, feel free to email back. Good luck!

Resolve also has a stain remover for pet stains and odor.

Natures Miracle at Petsmart. I have a puppy and believe me it works, all that other stuff posted like shaving cream, resolve ect,, does not work, it may get some of the stain out but it's the smell you want out so he does not keep coming back to the same spot and doing it again. good luck..

You need Melaleuca! Let me know if you want help, especially if/when the other stuff doesn't work. THe Solumel will certainly keep her from going back to the same place.

An inexpensive solution to try is hydrogen peroxide. Mix in a spray bottle, 1 part hydrogen peroxide to 2 parts water. You can do half and half if you need to. I've tried it on various fabrics and never had it harm the color, but since you are working on a light colored carpet anyway, it should be even safer.

Spray it on the area until thoroughly soaked and then allow to air dry. Blowing a floor fan on the area will help dry it out faster. You may need to repeat an additional time. You will need to do something to keep the dog away from the area until this is all done (Put a dining room chair over the spot or block off the room entirely.)

Hydrogen peroxide eats anything organic. This is why it is a miracle worker when it comes to removing blood. It will work 100 times better than the store brand "enzyme removers."

I have a male cat that started marking the same spot on my carpet after all the hurricanes in 2004(he's a nervous fellow.) I bought a steam cleaner and cleaned it with resolve. I rented a Rug Doctor and cleaned it with their pet product. I tried Nature's Miracle. I had a professional come out and clean, and then had them out again to rip up the carpet, clean the sub floor, padding and carpet and use their own enzyme product. This all cost hundreds of dollars and DIDN'T WORK!

Ultimately, a $0.34 bottle of hydrogen peroxide completely fixed the problem. I now use this type of mixture for freshening my fabrics on the furniture even. Works like Febreeze without the strong perfume smell, because it eats the organic matter that causes the odors (dander, body oils, etc.) It's nice too because I'm not using a bunch of weird chemicals around my pets and baby.

If you want a product with the same chemical but a pleasant fragrance, you can use OxiClean to accomplish the exact same thing. Just mix it in a spray bottle (a scoop to 8-12oz of water) and spray the area until thorough soaked and allow it to dry completely.

Hi Sandy,
I read your request and the responses you have received. My husband owns a carpet cleaning company so I am obviously going to recommend having a professional come in --- ChemDry offers a product called PURT it can be pricey but it will do the job. You can also ask for Pet Stain remover that they will leave with you or you can sometimes find it at The Home Depot -- it is a ChemDry product also. I would not put vinegar, ammonia, or any type of soap down -- not only will you be unable to remove it all from the carpet fibers it will attract dirt more readily. As far as the so called enzyme cleaners from WalMart and pet stores -- most of the replies said it worked great every time. If you have to use it frequently it clearly isn't doing what it is supposed to do. The best solution is of course prevention -- get her to the vet to take care of the bladder infection and work on the potty training or crate training. Hope you are able to get it all cleaned up.

Sandy, I have light beige carpet and used the enzyme cleaner and the spot turned bright orange and the smell was awful! I then broke down and called a professional. They cleaned the area and it looked great at first but when it started to dry the stain started to reappear. The professionals said if it reappeared then it would be permanent. So, while the carpet was still wet I ran up to Home Depot, Pet Smart carries this product too, and bought CAPTURE dry cleaning carpet cleaner. I used the pre-mist very lightly and sprinkled it all over the area and about a 1" area past it. I let it dry over night. The next day the smell was gone and when I vacumed there was no more stain. Our carpets are 10 years old and I still have people ask if they are new. I have 4 kids and two indoor pets and we use capture frequently! I highly recommend it.

Hi Sandi, I have a cat and what I use and it works, is pine sol.You need a spray bottle half pine-sol and half water. Spray until soaked wait 15 mins use a rag or towel to dry the spot...

Club soda works great! Just poor it on straight, let set for about 5 minutes then use a white cloth to blot with. Good bye stain and odor.

If those don't work try Nature's Miracle. Google it.

Use full strength hydrogen peroxide. You can put it in a spray bottle or pour it directly on the stain if you feel you want it to soak down into the carpet pad.
Test it on your carpet in an inconspicuous place first, but I have been using it for 4 years on the advice of the man I bought my carpet from and it works every time with no fading and is killing all the germs and bacteria as well.

Spray and blot, DO NOT RUB. It eliminates the problem most cleaners have of leaving behind residual deteregent that attracts dirt to the spot later. I have a very nervous dog and two cats and I'll save you the gory details of what I've woken up to find on the carpeted areas of my home, but I have never had a spot of any kind that this did not remove completely, I even use it for the questionable spots that we humans occasionally track in to the house.
And, you can't beat the price!!!!!

If you want to save some money... go to Walmart and get the stuff called OUT. It is also an enzymatic cleaner, and I used it on my neighbors stains after her dog died, and it took it all out. You can also use if on wine stains and if your kids vomit! It works AMAZING!

Hi,
I hope some of these remidies worked for you.....if not call me...I have switched my house over to all non-toxic products. They are affordable and safe for me and my family. Sol-u-mel works on every stain I have tried it on. Contact me for more information. www.SuccessBuiltFromHome.com or call 518-529-6642
Good Luck,

Try "Anti Icky Poo Odor Remover" and get their carpet injector too (it will get down into the padding) and is a great enzyme cleaner for pet stains. I get mine online as I don't know of any local retailers that carry it. You can see on Amazon that it got great reviews.

Hi Sandy,
Hopefully the enzyme stuff worked for you. I have a nervous dog too (poo & pee) and the enzyme stuff is awesome. I think the MAIN trick is putting down a towel and some really heavy weight on top of it for at least a day if not more. I used it without the weight and it's so-so. With the weight on it (I use my husbands weight lifting weights or a few bricks) it's wonderful. The carpet is cleaner on those spots than anywhere else in the house :) Good luck!!!

Thank you for the response everyone! I sent my dad to PetSmart for the enzyme remover so we’ll see what happens. I just hope their sub floor is not ruined. They are retired and living on a fixed income… replacing the carpeting at this point is not in the budget.

WOW A SECOND ROUND OF SOLUTIONS! THANK YOU MAMAS!!!
My mother had the carpet professionally cleaned but the stain remains (the dog had a bladder infection when she first started peeing on the carpeting). It is lighter now thanks to her working on it. My mother is getting very frustrated however because now there are baby gates up in her house and bags all over the place (the dog is a flake and will not go near them for some reason so they are using it to their advantage) and the dog is still peeing in the house!

Anyhoo, thanks for all the solutions once again ladies! I love Mamasource!!

Thank you again!!!
