Help! Dog peed on marble slab in front of fireplace!

Hi!
My dog is very old and has lost control of her bowels. I just saw a puddle of urine on the marble slab in front of our fireplace. I don't think it's been there very long. I wiped it up and sprayed with all purpose cleaner. You can still tell where she peed - it looks like it's still wet. Will it go away? Advice how to clean it? Hubby is gonna be so mad!!!

Buy your dog the doggy diapers…if she is very old and can’t control her bowels, talk with your veterinarian to see if it’s time to put her down.

Oh ugh. Well I might consider googling ‘how to clean marble’. It is porous and it might be hard to get out. Possibly toothpaste? I don’t know.

Is this one of her favorite spots? If so I might consider figuring out a way that she can’t get up there or covering it up in some way to protect it. When my childhood dog was getting old my mother started putting towels and plastic dry cleaner bags the furniture to protect it. It worked. Consider it as an option. You can always tape it into place with painters tape so it doesn’t slide. It’s a better option than constantly worrying about your marble! Good luck.

My bathroom floor upstairs has marble tile. That was a mistake… You can still see where shampoo spilled a long time ago. I never imagined marble was so porous. You live and learn.

Fortunately we do not use that bathroom much so I am not sure if the urine will permanently stain.

Instructions

    1

    Spray a liquid peroxide cleaner on the affected areas. Allow it to sit for five to 15 minutes depending on the severity of the stain.

    Blot the marble with a soft, clean cloth. Do not rub the stain because it will allow it to set further it into the marble. Continue to blot the stain until you remove all the cleaner.

    Repeat Steps 1 and 2 as needed until you completely remove the stain.

Tips & Warnings

Urine stains left on marble for long periods of time can cause etching, or a corroding of the marble. Sand the marble as needed and polish the marble by applying a marble gloss restorer product.

Marble stains soooo easily.

I absolutely love dogs…Would a doggie diaper work? Or putting a gate around the fireplace for now??

Thanks for asking, b/c my dog vomited water on our marble entry way floor and after wiping, the stomach acid left a splotchy area…so I’ll try your tips.

I don’t know about the urine, but I do know that you have to be very careful what you clean marble with. We lived in a house once that had black marble in the bathroom, and someone (before we bought the house) had cleaned the shower with something they shouldn’t have. You could actually see where they had sprayed the cleaner. We ended up having to have it all buffed out. Read your all purpose cleaner and see if it says anything about natural stone.
