I would like to start a tradition with my baby girl where I purchase one pearl for her each year at Christmas or her birthday. That way, when she is older, she can string them and wear them for her wedding, etc. Has anyone done this? I am not sure where to go about buying an individual pearl. Should I just go to a jewelry store? I am a bit uncomfortable buying one on-line without seeing it first. I also don't want to spend an arm and a leg each year on a pearl, but I would like good quality and a place that I can go back to each year. Thanks!

I have not purchased individual pearls however I have purchased pearl earrings for my daughters to be given to them when they are older. I absolutely love the idea of an Add-A-Pearl necklace. I don't have a recommendation for a jeweler in your immediate area of Elmhurst but I love our jeweler at Stones Jewelry in Wheaton 630-668-0163 www.stonesjewelry.com.
Good idea! I wish I had thought of this! You should look into "Jewelers Row" in Chicago. They supply jewelry stores as well as sell to the public. If you're not familiar with Jewelers
Row, it's basically a couple of blocks with not only jewelry stores but also suppliers. There's one building alone with lots of suppliers in it. It's right near Millenium Park and right off the brown/orange line.
