I love mysteries!
I haven't read anything in very long time, so I only get the mysteries from movies and the "How left the milk out" kind of mysteries at home.
How you ever go to one of those mystery dinners?
My husband took me once, only problem was that it was many years ago, when my English was worst then now, food wasn't that great and I couldn't figure it out anything, I would love to go to a really good scary one now that I could understand more.
There is a relatively new author that has about 4 published novels out. The most recent one (Iron House) I got for Christmas. It was really good, too. But the one that sticks out in my mind the most is called "The Last Child". The author is John Hart, and I highly recommend this book and any of his other 3. :)
Josephine Tey "Daughter of Time" (I think that was the name).
I listened to the audio book with Derek Jacobi(?)
Fantastic! Was just thinking about that while considering an answer to the woman who wanted to read the classics.
Nevada Barr....the Anna Pigeon series. Love the settings.
Rita Mae Brown....a little simplistic, but enjoyable.
Janet Evanovich....fun, laugh-out-loud, sexy quasi-mysteries.
Anne Stuart - the Ice series
Charlaine Harris - the Harper Connelly series...not the Sookie books.
Kristine Kathryn Rusch - the Retrieval Artist series. Futuristic.
F. Paul Wilson - the Repairman Jack series. Otherworldly.
Aimee & David Thurlo - I've read parts of two of their series.
Pamela Morsi - fun, not mysteries
Susan Cummins Miller - the Frankie MacFarlane, Geologist series.
I also read urban fantasy....the mystery based ones.
I used to keep a computer file. Now I carry a tiny raw leather hand-bound journal to keep track of my books. Love carrying it! It's the size of the palm of my hand....love it!
Nero Wolfe Mysteries... the author Rex Stout writes in real time from the depression into the 50's /60's with over 70 books. Ageless characters, NYC grows and changes around them. ((If you've ever seen the spoof 'Murder by Death' 1976... and all the classic mystery heros invited to dinner and death... Wolfe & Archie are 2 of the invitees.))
Amelia Peabody Mysteries... Author Elizabeth Peters is actually an egyptologist, so all the stuff she writes in that series is dead on target. Slow starters, and then it's 3am and you're waving your parasol fighting off badguys :)
Sherlock Holmes. 'Nuff said. ((Also really like the new BBC series. It's modern time set... so Sherlock has 6 nicotine patches on him, and Watson is an Afghan vet. ))
